Well just took my baby in this morning before work. The mechanic working at the check-in was sympathetic and didn't question my judgment of it being the gear whine in the differential as I feared he would. In fact he said he had seen it before and seemed to know exactly how long it would take to special order the parts from MB. Hopefully all goes well. So to anyone interested I will fill you in on the process.
