It IS a rare privilege for a Forum, regardless of its focus, to include political discussions as a sub-topic. As alleged adults, we should all have the emotional constraint to keep the conversations on topic, and avoid at all cost any inclination toward personal advances. We have been given the privilege to discuss
issues, not license to vend virulent expression.We should all have the common sense to abide by four simple rules:
- Drive-by cut and pasting is discouraged. When introducing a thread based upon a link, sufficient commentary should be included so as to understand the Original Poster's reason for introducing the subject and position on the issue. Threads opened based upon a link without such statements of purpose and position should be immediately closed.
- Puerile bickering is strictly forbidden. Chronic offenders should simply be banned from taking advantage of the privilege to post in the Political Forum, at the discretion of the Moderators.
- Posting invectives is strictly forbidden. Personal attacks are not to be tolerated. Period.
- Hi-jacking is rude and inconsiderate to the Original Poster.
Simple, adult rules of engagement. More and more people are becoming concerned with the politics of today's national and world affairs, and all Members should have the opportunity to express positions and discuss issues without the fear of intimidation or personal retribution. Without emotional constraint and common adult courtesy, a Political Forum simply cannot survive.
