Default Metalic rattle / tapping noise

I am after some much needed advice regarding a metallic tapping noise that I experience in 2nd and 3rd gear. I have replaced cats, I have checked the fuel pump and all ok. No loose parts on underside of vehicle, I have looked at hatch and all ok there. Sound comes from rear I think, but it is driving me nuts any advice on what the source could be would be welcomed. At present, I think loud music or ear plugs are the only solution :-)

It decreases when over about 2000 revs in gears 2 and 3. So noise disappears when speed up. Thank you for the link to the index really useful and comprehensive for a newbie like me.

Problem solved. It was the prop shaft carrier bearing that had worn. Replaced and so far so good!
