Default FM signal booster location

Does somebody know where the SIGNAL BOOSTER FM AM ANTENNA AMPLIFIER AMP MODULE OEM A1938200189 is located on the convertible model? Is it near the antenna or near the radio ?

Thanks

It is all in the service manual - which you can download right here on the forum.

It is my understanding that the roadsters do not have the amplifier - they don't need it, as they use a conventional whip antenna.

I've owned three of them, done almost all work (repairs and maintenance) myself and have never found an amplifier in the antenna line.

And I just verified my post above in the service manual - there is no amplifier.

I believe it is built into the antenna base, may be just with nav radio. Mine has two wires going to the antenna from a connector block just above and to the rear of the driver's side rear wheel. One is the power lead from the radio and the other is the coax for the antenna.
It is accessible with the top at half-mast, rear window up and top cover up. Be aware, after 10 minutes or so, pressure is released and the rear window and top cover will come down.

I do not believe that is accurate. The manual (and not just in this case, but in so many instances) contradicts itself. What do I mean? take a look from the same manual. If there is an amplifier in there, then doing ohmmeter measurements is a waste of time.

According to the schema, there is a booster integrated into the base of the antenna.

But then why the ohmmeter checks? Oh, that's right - the manual was written by someone with a third grade education in electronics. Silly me.

Just verified --- the amp is a printed circuit board in the antenna base. held in by 2 screws under the gasket.

So the signal is already amplified... and optimisation for far fm stations is already done.

Presumably. According to comments on this forum and on the MB forum, there have been some problems with the coax from the antenna to the radio. You might also want to check that voltage is being applied to the amp when the radio is on. There is a connector block just below the antenna where you can check it (if you are a contortionist). Good luck.
