Default PIONEER Flipout / JBL Component Speakers

Wow, cannot believe how helpful this site has been in replacing everything car audio wise in my limited roadster. Started out with just replacing the head unit, then decided to replace head unit and speakers, but keep the stock amp and wiring harness to keep it simple.

I decided on the following replacements:
  • PIONEER AVH-X7800BT 7" 1Din DVD Receiver Bluetooth
  • JBL GTO609C Premium 6.5-Inch Component Speaker System
  • Pyle PLPW6D 6-Inch 600 Watt Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofers (2)

What I found on this site to help:
  • Door Removal
  • A-Piller Removal
  • Wiring Harness Instructions / VW-9000
  • Hi-Pass Filter Capacitor / 220uf Instructions
  • Dash Wiring to A-Piller - Still working on this

I originally purchased the harness recommended by Crutchfield and it came with rca speaker outputs which complicated things. Found a reference to BestBuy having the VW-9000 with instructions on how to make it work with the Crossfire. Perfect.

This was my biggest decision and one that I think will help future DIY installers. I choose component speakers with external crossovers over coax to avoid wiring tweeter capacitors. I did several things to justify this to myself. I choose this JBL component speakers because Crutchfield stated the tweeter would replace the Crossfire tweeter. And it was a perfect replacement, popped the old tweeter out and the new one with an included bracket popped right in. No fuss, no muss...

After headunit was installed, I listened to the stock speakers, not bad but OEM lower front door woofers were over powered with bass at volume. I never noticed the subs behind the seats until the Pioneer was installed. The OEM door tweeters could still hardly be heard. Still a great improvement.

I then installed the JBL component speakers without the JBL crossovers. Big BIG improvement, door woofers still overpowered, tweeters were hot tho.

I then installed the JBL crossovers. This was near perfect. The JBL crossovers were installed in each door just behind the interior door access panel that is hidden when the door is closed. I strapped them in just above the door woofers. The crossovers installed was a PERFECT fit and the tweeter was present But, the door woofer was still over powered. I can access the JBL crossover to change settings by just removing the access panel, press tweeter db adjustment button the replace the panel. Plenty of room there for most component crossovers that come with speakers.

I then found the hi-pass 220uf capacitor thread to calm the door woofers down. This was the solution that kicked my XFIRE into audio heaven. Wired a 220uf capacitor between the JBL crossover woofer out and the lower door speaker in. Everything is so clean sounding and I've not yet replaced the subwoofers behind the seat.

Are you able to plug a backup camera into that?

Wow looks awesome.. Quick question did you have to install another amplifier or is the stock amp enough? Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay on questions.

Yes, a backup camera can be installed.

No, I did not swap out the amp. I'm using the factory amp for everything. I also kept the factory wiring harness to the amp in place and did not convert to use all 4 amps. All is being driven just as the factory setup. By doing this I can reinstall the factory radio anytime; but I don't see me doing that.

The sound on this does not have me wanting to do anything else. It's loud and clear and punchy.

FYI: I've still not had to replace the stock woofers. They are still kicking and working fine.

Thanks for the info. Replacing the subs in a couple of weeks and then the head unit.
