Exclamation Plasti Dip - Found A Great Place! (Interior Done)

I just wanted to share a great site I found. I was looking for PlastiDip everywhere and have found an awesome Canadian site with great shipping prices. I placed an order and the product came in like 2 days! If you are interested check it out. I highly recommend it – CarDip Canada

I did my interior and it looks great, plus it protects it.

When I get bored I'm gonna peel it off and do another colour. I think Gun metal or White.

Did you just do the silver console? Been toying with that idea myself. I like the black on the console. Looks good.

Ya just the silver console. I never really liked the silver, really happy with how the black turned out.

What did you do to prep before painting? Really wanting to do my shift **** too. It's kinda scratched up, and there don't seem to be any aftermarket options that I like.

I cleaned it with dish soap, water and some elbow grease.

I agree with black looking better! I didnt use Plasti dip but the finish is very similar to what I did.

You inspired me. I did my shift **** last night, and LOVE IT! Looks better, and no more slippery ****. I think the black console looks great, but not sure if I want the grip of the PlastiDip or not.

Interesting indeed. I may just have to try this on my rims. If this stuff really works and lasts for a while, it sure would have been nice to have in the clear form for protecting for chips/nicks on the front bumper.

I used a rattle can of black PlastiDip that I've had in the garage for a couple years. I bought it for a project at work, but never used it.

I gave it three light coats, just enough to give it a wet appearance, and waited 30 min or so between coats. Left it sitting in the vice all night to dry. If you decide to do your manual shift **** don't get it on the threads. You won't be able to get the lock collar back on. Fortunately, it isn't real difficult to peel off, which leads me to think I should go ahead and do the all the silver on the console. Then look for some black SLK window switches. I think the upper switches look good in silver on black, but the window switches look a little out of place. So, does the air bag light though. Might paint over it, and see if it shines through. Same thing with the BIG RED TRIANGLE. I will probably just pull the bulb out of it though.

Not the best pix. I took them with my phone.

PlastiDip is new to me and I am curious about its heat retention. Their website makes no mention of heat tolerance. I'm curious if this would work on brake calipers. Care would have to be taken to not get it on any moving parts, including pads, pistons, clips etc....

I did my calipers with it, but would not recommend it.
They are almost impossible to clean once they get brake dust on them .....
( I learned that they make caliper paint for a purpose )

Yep, Thanks for the heads up regarding cleaning. My method of painting calipers for the last 15yrs has been cleaning with a wire brush then brushing on TremClad Rust Paint. Paint is cheap, adheres and dries great, heat resistant and lasts two seasons easily.

Just an FYI, I had to peel off my Plastidip Friday. Early last week I noticed what looked like a blister on the front. By Friday it was peeling in a about a 1/2" circle.

Guess I'll just keep looking for a nice leather ****. Thinking about going with auto paint for the console now. It would seem there is just too much movement/wear on the shift **** for this type of material, without sanding and ruining the original finish on the ****.
