Check eng light?
Check eng light?
Hi,
I've read most of the forum inputs on the "check eng light" and it seams that the likely issue is the "gas cap". I have less than 5,000 miles on my Crossfire, and now have the check eng light on. I removed the gas cap, cleaned the gasket, and reseated the gas cap. I have driven it for 4 days, but the check engine light is still on. Does the dealer have to reset the light...or should it reset itself...if the gas cap was the problem?
I have an appointment at the Dealer tomorrow. Comments appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Check eng light?
If the problem was the gas cap, it should clear after a few starts with a few miles on each start.
If it doesn't clear, or stay cleared, have the dealer read the error code and fix the problem.
My check light would come on and go off after about 3 restarts, I replaced the gas cap, without success. Turned out to be a bad relay that had to be replaced.
BTW, the first dealer I took it to, 5 start where I bought the car, cleared the fault, said it was a vacuum leak, but didn't find a problem. The next dealer I took it too, non-5 star, read the code, spent a lot of time working the issue and found the bad relay.
It all depends on who is doing the work.

I took of the gas cap and cleaned the gasket...and reseated the cap...light stayed on for 3 days...I was on my way to the dealer...and the light went off...
I think that was the 3rd or 4th time I started the car.
I cancelled my dealer appointment...Have now driven the car for another week...light is still off...So you were correct...it takes several engine starts and miles before the sensor will reset itself...Thanks.

I know from other cars I've had that a check engine light is frequently caused by a bad oxygen sensor. Does the Crossfire have many of those?
Happy Motoring!!!
Thanks

When in doubt go to Auto Zone, Shucks or Pep Boys, they'll read the fault code for you at no charge. Then all you have to do is look it up the PCode in the service manual and see if it is serious or truly just the gas cap. I am guessing the code for a gas cap issues would be one of the following:
(P0451) FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR PERFORMANCE
(P0452) FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW - Most Likely
(P0453) FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH.

(P0453) FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH.
