Default Buying an '04 Xfire. What documents do I need to keep warranty valid?

Hi everyone! This is my first post, of many, because I'm planning on buying a 2004 XF in the very near future. My question is, what do I need to keep the warranty valid? From reading other threads, I remember someone wrote that I must have service records which show that the oil was changed at least every 7K miles. Anything else?

Thanks so much for your time and input!

Josh

you don't need to keep anything. if it really came down to it you could or they could have your oil analyzed and that would tell them anything they needed to know. but honestly warranty work isn't a big deal. the burden of proof lies on chrysler not you.

You will have to pay a fee to transfer the coverage. You can do that through the finance department of your local Chrysler dealer. It's only like a $100 or so. I was told $150 and got $50 returned in the mail.

I just bought an '04 Crossfire, what is the factory warranty period? The dealer I bought it from (used car place) said 3/36 but I thought I saw somewhere on the internet 7/70. Am I dreaming?

No you aren't dreaming - it does come with a 7/70 powertrain warranty, but like stlxfire said you have to tell them to transfer it (if you are the second owner) if you are the third I don't think you can still transfer it? It costs $100 to transfer it. That's what I had to do with my 2005 Crossfire, when I bought it used and (I am the second owner.) And go to the Finance office at your dealership -

Can I do it after the fact?

I think you have 30 days after purchase to transfer the warranty.

You can't transfer the powertrain warranty if you are the third owner or if the previous owner was a corporation (fleet vehicle). I hope you meet these two conditions. I'm planning on buying my used car tonight so I called up the Chrysler dealership and spoke to a gentleman in their service department who looked up the VIN and let me know that my future car will allow me to transfer the warranty.

If you just bought the car, batmbl, I suggest you head over to the dealership PRONTO and get that warranty transferred. You have 30 days to do so.

Thanks all for that info. I'm pretty much screwed at this point. I bought the car 33 days ago. I'm going to find out if they will write an exception. Thanks again.

I would try and go back and see if you can still transfer the powertrain warranty. Actually, I transferred mine after the 30 day period because about 30 days after I bought the car, I received a letter in the mail from DC informing me if I knew that I, as a second owner was still eligible to transfer the 7/70 powertrain warranty. I took the letter with me and the dealership transferred the warranty for me after I paid $100. It was mainly for peace of mind - So I suggest you go and try.

Correct, 2nd owner can have the warranty extended to them, third is out of luck.

I paid $150 to my local dealer for the transfer back in 12/2005. How long was it before you got the $50 returned?

It was probably several weeks. Totally unexpected since everything I had read said that it was $150. Also, it was past the 30 point that I transferred
coverage. The finance office took care of it with no problems. After you do this and it is in the system, make sure the service department also knows it. It may not show up in their system at the same time.

When I bought my used 2005 in another state at a Dodge dealer the salesman told me that the warranty was automatically transferred. Both the 3/36 and 7/70. How do I know if they truly transferred the warranty? Can my local Chrysler dealer service department look it up without me making a claim? I truly hope that I never need the 7/70. Already used the 3/36 without a problem but this thread got me worried about the 7/70.

You HAVE to pay the $100 fee to transfer the 7/70 powertrain. That's a fact.
Yes you can check on it with your VIN and you do not have to file a claim to do it.

Will do. I emailed the extended warranty group at DC yesterday. I'll see what they have to say.

I emailed DC direct and here is there response. Bottom line is I was able to transfer the warranty after the 30 days and it was FREE!!!

Do you know if they transferred the 3/36 bumper to bumper coverage? Perhaps thats where the transfer fee came in.

Not sure because my car is at 36k, maybe. You should contact them. It never hurts to ask.
