Unhappy Burnt out light indicator?

The light indicator came on the other day. Simple enough, it was the passenger side brake light "out". Purchased and installed the replacement and it works as advertised. Here is the question...

Even with the light replaced and everything seemingly working properly, when I press the brake during driving, the inside indicator comes on in sequence with pressing the brake. I'm missing something here and I'll be darned if I know what it is.

Any ideas???
