my new car
well my fiancé is due december 24th, and today we had our baby shower. her grandparents found it necessary that we needed a "family car" and decided to purchase us a new pontiac g6 gtp. the thing is fully loaded leather, heated, seats, panoramic sun roof, ect - funny thing is @ 240 hp and 240 lb/tq it, it feels and after reviewing everything it should run low 15's so in a straight line. giving an xf a good run in a straight line. i'll post pics tomorrow...i just think its sad that chrysler gives the xf a measly 215 hp.

Re: my new car
so you got the four door ? i was looking at one for a friend and the best engine they offer is their 3.6 (the 3.9 being slightly weaker) which has the power ratings you mentioned ... rather impressive numbers ... but i was very turned off by the OHV nature as i am not a fan of pushrods ... how does it sound, like a old school GM clunker or something modern and precise ?
overall, the GT trim is a very nice car ... the lower end ones the exact opposite ... i ended up taking my friend to a scoobie dealer and got a imprezza for the same price as they wanted to sell a ecotec powered g6 ... the imprezza had much better interior and exterior quality and not to mention the ease of working on a boxer since all the accessories are up top for you to access ...
but back on topic, the GT is very nice ... 4 speed or 6 speed automatic ? assuming not stick since its for the family...

Re: my new car
First of all, congratulations on your new family member (effective Dec 24th). I believe G6 is a big enough of car where you can pack all the baby needs. A Stroller, A car seat, baby bags, diapers...etc. My wife always sat on the back seat next to the baby. So, bigger the backseat the better. I hope it comes with a huge trunk space. Best of luck.
Re: my new car
4 speed auto, and it sounds very nice, however very quite which I guess is a good thing for a family car...also the tq curve is very nice the throttle response isn't to great unless you have it in manual mode though, but as far performance sedan go, its very nice.

Re: my new car
Hey, JP, wow getting married and having a baby, new car! Your life is going to change! You will love it. I have been married for 31 years and I also got married at 20. I did wait a few years for kids though. But that is great congrats. I know I bust on you for picking on X-Fire's but most people buy for looks, not 1/4 mile speed. But to each their own. Again Congrats!
Re: my new car
When my daughter was born in 1986 we had a red 1984 Honda CRX. I built a "solid" bracket that would hold her car seat in place in the middle and just behind the two front seats. I could access it thru the rear hatch for easy baby removal. She road around in that car until 1988 (when she started to grow legs).
She's 5'8.5" tall now. Still riding around in a red Honda, only it's an '04.
JP2005, enjoy em while they are young, because it seems like they grow up overnight.

Re: my new car
i bought my crossfire because it was my first auto loan. i got a pretty good deal on it. i didn't realize i would be making half of what i am and i didn't want a vette, z3, z4 or boxster, because i see those ALL the time...but now that i know how much i can afford and i also know what i want the choice is obvious, get the viper, the car you've always wanted since a youngster...so why not.
i am very excited and cant wait for both my viper and daughter.
p.s. if you do compare power to weight ratio of an elise vs a crossfire its even more depressing.
crossfire -- .07142
elise -- .10692
*which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the damn gears.

Re: my new car
Congrats on your new ride, the interior of that car is especially nice. They really need to look into the 3.6 w/VVT and the 6 speed auto like what's found in the Aura XR for the GTP. But then again, they've got the GXP coming out with 270 hp, so maybe that's going to get the 3.6 and 6 speed auto.
