Remote Power windows using key fob...?
Remote Power windows using key fob...?
I came upon a thread in the MB forum where someone created a device called "SimpleRoofSLK" (it might work with the crossfire roadster) that allows you to operate the roof via the key fob. Does anyone know if there is a way to us the same technology on the windows (for us coupe users)? I know some of today’s mercedes do it and my old C-Class did it and it's a great feature. Especially on those hot summer days.

Re: Remote Power windows using key fob...?
I don't really care about the windows, or even the "remote" aspect of dropping the top, but when I get in the car, I could spend the time that I have to hold the button to switch glasses (to sunglasses) connect my cell phone earpiece and attach my seat belt. It's a pain the way it is - although it's much better than the system in my old Mustang.

I'm with gibsonjunkie. It has nothing to do with laziness; it’s about gadgetry, and automation. It's all about faster anything. Faster service is what the new wave is all about. The competitive advantages for businesses will be all about how easy it is to do business with you. You know the Easy Button. Look at some of the technology we've been adapting for the last years. I-pass or Express tags (automated highway toll systems), Speedpass for the gas station, finger print devices to pay at the grocery store, one touch power windows, online banking, remote starters, and so on, and so on ...
Re: Remote Power windows using key fob...?
I have put power window automators in some cars so sure why not. The problem would be using the factory remote as it only has 3 buttons.
If you set it to the unlock the windows would go down every time you unlocked the car.
If you don't feel the need foe a panic button you could probably tap into that.
You would however need to disconnect some of the factory alarm systems.
With an auxiliary remote it would be pretty straight forward.
You could even set it to just crack the windows also.

Not really, on my Armada all I have to do is keep one of the buttons depressed for let say 4 or 5 seconds, and that brings down the windows. Two presses on one of the other buttons (within a couple of seconds) will remote start it. These fobs have multiple functions even with only a few buttons.

Don't really need the remote start, but that would be pretty cool using the factory remote.
For those of you with the roadster here's a clip of the module in action:

Re: Remote Power windows using key fob...?
Lowering the windows with the remote on a 105 degree heat index day in south Ga day is as close to heaven as it gets. My G35 does that. If not for the manual release on the top of the SRT-6, well, that would be awesome to drop the top with the remote. One can only dream. Heck I'd settle for being able to roll the windows down.
