Default first gear issue

I sent the dealer the tsb for it and I have an appointment on wednesday. The problem happened only 5 or 6 times since last January but I have to get it fix while its still under warranty. But I'm a little scared that things are going to get worse after reading some of your posts. How can I make sure the dealer know what he is doing? Is it better to leave the car like it is since that is not a major problem for me?
Thanks.
I'll keep you posted on the results.

Get it fixed while it's under warranty. You don't want it to pop out of first while accelerating and get rear-ended.

I'm currently going through the same issue, right now my dealer ordered the parts and tools to do the job, said it will take about 2 months to get everything, then another week to do the job.

I will be writing a letter to Chrysler and complain about this and the fact that this is an extreme safety issue, since I already had two near death accidents because of this popping out of gear. I would like to exchange my transmission for another one, because I am not comfortable with the dealer doing the work, hell they don't even have the tools for the job, which tells me that they never done this before. Who knows how long the fix will last?

Why on earth would it take two months to get the parts. I have gotten stuff in from Germany in less than a week. Sounds like they are putting you off as long as possible. I believe I would pitch a fit. Try to find out what would cause such a long delay. I'm just curious.

Ok, they also told me that they never did that repair on a crossfire. They have the parts and the tools (i hope its true) and i talk to a guy there and he is a transmission specialist and the guy knew the problem right away before i told him about the tsb, so its a good sign, i guess. My appointment is wednesday at 7 am and we'll see how long it takes and if they can really fix it.

Well good luck with it. It's just any transmission specialist that works for Chrysler, probably have very limited knowledge of this transmission. There aren't many standard tranny vehicles sold through DC, except for the NEON and JEEPs. mostly everything is automatic.

I think you guys should consider taking it to another DC dealer. I wonder if there is a network of dealers that deal or have a specialty on this car?

DynamicS, nice improvement on your Avatar.

I'm with FP on this. "we never did a repair on a Crossfire before" would scare the hell out of me. Find one who has. Where do you live? I'm sure someone here can help recommend another dealer for you.

You think I'm not scared...lol. I'm in St-Eustache, near Montreal, Quebec. I'm still not sure but I will have to fix it eventually.

Heaven help you my friend!! I'm in the midst of the same problem. I'm now on my third dealer...trying to locate one that knows something...anything! So dealer #3 looks at the TSB, they said they would order the parts and call me when they're ready. I get the phone call and take the car down to the dealer. They tell me two or three days. That was over three weeks ago now! First off, they broke the trans casing trying to take it apart, so they had to order a new case. They finally get it back together, and you can't get the clutch more than half way out before it pops out of gear...every freakin time!! So...they've ordered a whole new transmission. It was supposed to come in via fasted carrier this morning, but I didn't hear from them today. I'll be yanking their chain tomorrow! Last time my XF needed repair, I didn't see it for seven months (no I'm NOT kidding!). More than half of the time I've owned this car, It's been in the shop. I LOVE this car...but I HATE Chrysler!

I would of stop making payments on it, or at least ask for reimbursement.

Couldn't you claim the car under the Lemon law after 30 days in the shop?

There wasn't much wrong with the car. I had been rear-ended on the freeway. Not much damage really. They ended up having to take pictures of the car and parts, send them to Germany, and have an engineer make notes on the pix with instructions on how to put it back together. Unfortunately, they had a hard time translating some of the technical verbiage from german to english. My family owns the 5 Star dealership I bought it from. No help...actually, they were about the worst of the bunch.

This thread has just freaked me out. I've been on the fence on whether to keep the XF or not. To be without your car for seven months is over the top. It's just a darn shame that the good part of Chrysler produced a fantastic good looking desirable car but the bad part of Chrysler (service) is ruining it.

Ok here is the update, i went to the dealer this morning at 7. I was the first there. I ask for a car but they made me wait to check the car, they told me that they probably don't have the parts to fix it because all the crossfire parts are back order. At 9 i was still waiting and the car was still sitting outside, so i asked for my keys and left, they never repaired crossfire and they probably don't want to. So now i'm looking for another place to get it fixed.

Well...my XF was supposed to come home today, BUT...they didn't get the new transmission. I've never in my life seen such totally incompetent business practices in my life. I've owned my XF for 15 months, and it's been non-operation for 8 months. I'm done...this car has got to go.

Does the fact that your car came from the dealer that your family owns has anything to do with this? How much did you pay for it or did you at all?

I too, had problems with my car that took almost 2 months to get fixed. Thats because the part took over a month and a half to get to the US.

I somehow doubt a dealership can hold on to a car for 8 months, even for a new transmission ...

That's freaking hilarious!! As though car dealers...family or not...just give cars away! These people practically eat their young for heaven sake! I bought the car in august of '05, it was an '04 Ltd black 6 speed model. Since it was a year old I was supposed to be getting this killer deal on it. I paid $28K...not exactly a steal of a deal. And then I found out that it had been repainted because of a "minor" accident on the car lot. They sort of "forgot" to mention that before I bought the car, but since I'm family...

This stealership has been in my family since 1969, My uncle (dad's brother) started it. Handed it down to his two sons when he passed away (my cousins). I remember my dad telling me when I was a kid never to buy a car from them. As dad put it "my brother would take the last dime from his dying mother." Somehow I thought time would change things...no chance!

well now that you explained your relationship with the "family" then it makes sense...

it wouldn't be unheard of though of someone coming from a family that owns a dealership getting a car... hell if my dad owned one, i expect it to be my "birth right" to get one... :-)

well... good luck to you and your car...
