The side vents are held on with double faced tape. The window surround is clipped on. The are metal clips that attached to the car. The frame is plastic and snaps on to the metal clips. I have had mine off last week to have my windshield replaced. You should take off the center piece first. There is a clip on either end and one in the center. You have to gently pry up on the piece with a plastic pry piece so you don't scratch the paint. It may give some resistance but it will snap off. Once the middle is off you can take off the sides. Getting them back on is easy, get them in position over the snaps and gently push on one side until you hear the snap and then the other until it snaps. Hope that helps.!

How would one go about putting the side vents back on? I want to paint the black plastic a gloss black, is that piece also held on by tape?
