Default Gas Door locking mechanism

Anyone have a problem with the gas door locking mechanism failing to pull back when you unlock the doors. If so, is there a way of getting the door open. I was just wondering if the mechanism failed how you could get the door open.

I don't know if this answers your question, but I apply a bit of pressure on the gas door and it pops open. I give it a push and it's ready for me to untwist the gas cap and fuel my car. Sorry if this is not what you're having issues with...

I believe that's part of the pneumatic locking system that also locks your doors and deck lid. If a line breaks the door wont lock. I had my lid lock go out and the pneumatic line had to be repaired. I couldn't lock the lid.
I don't know if there is an over ride system that you can use to unlock the gas lid. I'd call a dealer tech (I know haha if you can find one that knows the car) and see if they have any ideas other than bringing it in and letting them fix it.

Let us know what you find out.

That's what I was wondering. If the system broke for one reason or another, would the locking pin disengage allowing the door to be opened until the system could be repaired. Obviously not many people have had this problem, but it would be nice to know that you could open the door to gain access to the tank.

I believe the locking pin & guide are just plastic so in a worst-case scenario I'm sure the door could be opened by applying sufficient upward force with an appropriate object.

I had not thought about this before. I hope it uses air to hold the pin in the closed position. It would be bad if you can't get the fuel door open.
Thanks for giving me something to worry about.

Just make sure your xfire is unlocked...the gas door should open, I figured this out one day at the gas station...Actually I couldn't close the gas door, as soon as I unlocked the car the pin for the gas door retracted, allowing me to close the door...it's just the opposite when trying to open the gas door.
