Crossfire Maintenance Costs
Crossfire Maintenance Costs
Hello All. I was reading some reviews on the crossfire on some other websites. Alot of people that reviewed the car talked about the high maintenance costs. From tires, oil changes to the factory maintenance schedule. For current crossfire owners what is your experiences with maintaining the car? Have the costs been very high for you? Thanks!
Re: Crossfire Maintenance Costs
My two year old '04 Six Speed Coupe with 19,000 miles has cost me roughly $250 for 2 oil changes. It has about 3,400 miles left to the next service which I presume will be a "2 Wrench service". Anybody know how much this is going to cost. The only other expense was $250 for a new front tire which was done in by the "Pot Hole From Hell" in Emeryville.

In a nutshell, the post said they would work on it, but no warranty work. They consider it a Chrysler, no if ands or buts about it.
Re: Crossfire Maintenance Costs
Since the Crossfire has only been around for three years, very few people have had to spend much on maintenance or repairs. A large majority of all Crossfires are still under their bumper to bumper warranties - so any repair cost haven't been passed on to the owner. Additionally, there is also 7/70 powertrain protection on most Crossfires.
Typical scheduled maintenance will run around $125 for an oil change and a variety of checks. However, you only need to do this every 8K miles or so.
Tires are expensive as is typical for sports cars. It will cost around $1K for a new set of tires (more or less depending on which tires you buy and where you buy them). If you drive conservatively most of the time, tires will typically last 25-30K miles.
Insurance for the Crossfire is reasonable and would probably cost less than say a Mustang or Honda Civic coupe.

Re: Crossfire Maintenance Costs
Your main cost driver will be whether you take the Xfi to the dealer for the "A" and "B" service. I'm not saying to take it to Jiffy Lube or Pep Boys, but if you know an independent mechanic to which you've entrusted any of your prior vehicles you're better off going there & getting them to check the little boxes in your warranty book. A local dealership charged me $400 for my first "B" service, two air filters, and plugging a tire that had a nail. The "B" service is a glorified oil change (change the oil & look over the car). In their pricey look over of my (used) Xfi, they failed to note that the front tires were cupped AND plugged a tire whose tread wear indicators were showing without saying so. They also told me when I made my appointment they could do a 4-wheel alignment then called and said they didn't have the equipment to do it on 19 inch wheels. I will never go to a dealer again for scheduled maintenance - you can get 3 or 4 oil changes elsewhere for what they charge you for one.
