Talk to your dealer
If this is true are all parts covered? I have the same issue and would like the dealer to fix it if its covered. What I do not want is to end up with a bill and a lame excuse that only X part is covered and the rest is on my dime. If that is the case I will look at getting it fixed elsewhere.

This is a long shot. Does anyone have a relay control module just laying around? I work at an engineering school and I have access to equipment to repair most standard parts. If I had a broken relay control module, I could poke around and see what it would take to repair it at minimal costs.

Just a thought!!!

I also had the dreaded P0410 code showing up. Through the forum I found where the module is located. I took out the module looked it over and put it back in. I carefully reattached the wires to their "sockets" in the modules. It has been over 2 weeks since then and not a hint of P0410 or CEL.

I had the P-0410 code and took the car to the dealer. He ordered the control module relay and I had it installed Monday.
I received a bill for $100.
I asked my service advisor why I had a bill for an emission problem and he said the control module relay wasn't covered by the emission warranty but by my MaxCare warranty which carries a $100 co pay.

I need to check my warranties to see if this is true.

I have had the P0410 error for a while with the Check Engine light turning on and off. I took the advice in this thread and got a new Relay Control Module and Check Valve from the dealer. Problem Fixed!!!

The good news is that I belong to the North Georgia Mopar Club which is supported by the dealer. Got the Relay module for $200 (List $304) and the check valve for $17 (List $25). Thanks to everyone who contributed to diagnosing the problem.

Does anybody in this thread know how big a resistor to place on a faulty air pump in order to get rid of the dreaded CEL.

Sorry, not had chance to frequent the forum for many months due to work issues. I was a bit reticent at posting up exact details of the resistor mod since I didn't want it to be considered a complete solution to the air pump code issue; I did it since I was removing the pump. The resistor merely makes the ECU sense current through the pump circuit when the pump is disconnected preventing the code being thrown for an open circuit pump - I think there are other conditions under which the code is thrown to so the 'fix' only deals with an open circuit pump motor - if you are hearing the pump run for a while when you start the car from cold, then the resistor mod won't help. Anyway, I used a 47R 3 watt resistor (because that is what I had) which will feed about 250mA through the pump circuit (the pump actually draws 10's of amps)

HTH.

Simon.

I had the same issue with my '04 Coupe...The final fix was me taking out the relay circuit board that was discussed here on this thread and taking a soldering iron and going over every solder joint I could, both top and bottom!! Haven't had it come back since!

Hello Guys,

Thank you very much for all your advice.

I disconnected the battery on saturday and checked the RCM - which is like new! I double checked the pump and it is definately fried. Upon putting everything back together again the CEL is gone! I won't question why, but I have the resistors as suggested by Woody on standby.

Will keep you posted if the CEL come back on again.

Just the BAS/ESP light solve now!

Update:

The CEL keeps coming back for more. I have placed the 47R resistor in series on the live wire of the Air Pump (I assume this is where it shoud be placed and not between the + & -?) and upon reconnecting the battery all seemed well. Then 2 days later the light came back on again!

Anyone have any suggestions?

My relay looked absolutely new as well. My CEL would intermittently come on and off it would stop for a little while longer when I took it out and put it back. That lead me to believe that it is some sort of connection problem. My pump was good. It could be bad solder joints, bad relays or some other situation. I started to look around for another one to replace it. I called the Chrysler dealer it was listed at about $300. I thought that was a little outrageous. I looked online and found it for $150 mail-order from a M-Benz dealer. I called my local M-Benz dealer and he first said $220. I told him I found it on-line for $150 and he came down to $168 and had the part in stock. I said deal. The module was complete with all the fuses. While still outrageous it was about the best you can do. I saved the old part it still mostly worked. I'll re solder all the connections that I can and see if that helps. The module controls several other things, including the fuel injection. If you look at the Mystery no start thread you'll see some similarities.

Just got the p0410 today. Car isn't under warrentee, and for the random occurrence of the light, all I'm interested in knowing is if its a really big deal not to replace it. Besides cleaner air coming out of the exhaust for a few minutes, is it really going to damage the car if i don't replace anything? I'd much rather put that 300 towards an ECU flash or exhaust, and if this isn't hurting the cars performance or safety, i can't justify spending that much on something that doesn't need to be fixed. Then again, if the car will blow up 300 miles down the road, i'd like to get those parts

My dealer is telling me the air pump has to be replaced at a cost of approx. $1,000. I am beyond the 3 year waranty but saw in the owner's manual that emmissions related problems are covered for 7 years. The manual just states "air pump". The dealer said they ran the part number and this pump is not covered under the waranty. Has anyone had the pump replaced under the 7 year emmissions waranty? Should I be calling Chrysler myself?

George

It is the Relay control Module. Search for the repair of it. That should fix the problem.
Very common

I have had this code going on for about a month now on my SRT -

I would also like to know if they can replace this under emissions warranty?

I had the p0410 code on my vw last summer , on these cars the rivets that hold the pump together tend to wear out , ordered my pump on eBay for 75$ and replaced it myself , its just a few bolts holding everything together , I know i don't own a xf but just thinking it might be similar to my car then It's nothing to worry about ..just change it soon

Think I would check the relay control module for stuck contacts or broke spring..
