Extended warranties

I paid $1250. My dealer offer me the same thing for $1890. He would not budge a penny. He even showed me the price in a 6" thick Chrysler catalog. But that is MSRP. He would not tell me what his cost is. So he got nothing.

I just traded in a '77 MGB for a brand new (120 dealer miles) 2006 Roadster Ltd. last week (July 2009). Since the car is just going into service, it comes with a full 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty plus lifetime powertrain warranty. The dealer offered me a lifetime extended maxcar warranty for $1800.00. I'm planning on keeping the car for a long time and since this seems like it will be an expensive car to repair, I'm considering the extended warranty but I have two concerns - #1 - will the lifetime warranty last longer than the new Chrysler/Fiat and #2 - if there's a shortage of parts after say 10 years, is Chrysler under the terms of the warranty, still obliged to find and install replacement parts? I'm curious whatchall think. Thanks.

Sorry to hear you traded in your MGB. Nice car but you did get another nice one to replace it.

My suggestion is read the entire warranty carefully. Look for the outs Chrysler is going to take. Are they really going to live up to it? Do you want the flexibility to take it anywhere to be repaired or are you stuck with Chrysler? At what point will they say it costs to much to repair? Dealers will NOT put in after market or other dealers parts (Read Mercedes parts) under a warranty. They will not get paid by Chrysler/Fiat for the labor or parts.

You lived with a car that was hard to get repaired unless you did the work yourself or had a great mechanic over the age of 50. I may be wrong. It seems to me that your MGB was not your daily driver and I am assuming the Xfire would not be either. How many miles did you have on the MGB? Where you the orginal owner? If they traded you even for a Xfire it must have been in superb shape. If you survived no rust on you doors and door sill then do not even need to worry about that Xfire.

If it was me, I would have them buy you a lifetime on the power train and buy an extended warranty with the most months from some one else. Just MHO.

PS Is that MGB for sale? If please email me the dealer's telephone number. My wife will kill me but I was always sorry I sold that car.

-chrysler dealership by me closed
-new place is 45min. away.
-New place has threatened to void my warranty due to mods.

I would go with a 3rd party, shop around, read reviews, etc. I got screwed by this whole chrysler fall out, thus my opinion. But if you have not been impacted by all of this, then I would say the maxcare is the cheapest and most safe/comprehensive plan.

I bought my MaxCare Chrysler warranty a few years back and it was worth every penny. This last spring my car was down waiting for an instrument cluster that was on national back order. Usually these warranties only have rental car coverage for 10 days. My dealer got the OK from Chrysler to cover my rental car fees for 2.5 months! A $2,500 bill just for the rental portion, plus parts and labor. Mine has paid for it self many times over.

By the way - the MGB trade was not an even trade (not even close) for the Crossfire. It was just thrown in as part of the deal. The MG was a fun car but not exactly reliable and I don't think it could make it from the East Coast to AZ. The new Crossfire - now that is a fun and reliable car.

Thats why I have not done any mods to my car, if the dealer wants out of a warranty situation he can look for mods and say that they may or did cause the problem. I might do the same if it was to cost me money or trouble. If a Chrysler rep saw it he would definitely say it caused the problem, and you would be hard pressed to prove it didn't.

About the same price I paid. Great deal as the local dealer quoted me $3500!

That surprises me, Chrysler is spelled with an s and Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep all start with capital letters, just like Beloit.
Or maybe this is one way of showing that Chrysler lacks capital these days.

Thats fine, Im just trying to help out if I can. Even if I can make anything from chrysler or not for selling one. I sell cars new and used so thats my focus. People from the forums have bought many warranties through myself and are very happy.

Hey beanerneon - I currently have a 7/85 MaxCare Chrysler warranty that is set to expire next year in July. Does Chrysler offer anything that I can purchase to extend it? Are the lifetime warranties available only to new car purchases?

I just got my Max Care 7yrs/60K for my 07' Roadster from a local dealer,even 1K plus tax.There are at least 3 dealers I'm close enough to and I plan on keeping this car strictly stock.

So you are the one that blew the rental car coverage out of the water for the rest of us! I purchased my MaxCar last year and it only has 5 days rental coverage for repairs. Just curious, was any arm twisting involved or was your repair on the cusp of invoking the "lemon law" in your state?
