If the tires are NEW and if it is what you really want (color, transmission, etc.) and you observe no first gear popping, no leaks, good brakes (preferably not the original dusty pads) and maybe new battery ... I MIGHT go along with it. (If it has the original, white battery, it needs a new battery NOW - this is an issue with these cars).

But one member here picked up the same car, in auto, with 22K on it for under $11,000 last fall. Of course, she had to put a battery in it and tires on it....

I would recommend getting your own Carfax or asking the dealer when this Crossfire was first put into service. The specific car you are looking at would have been sold with a 7/70 powertrain warranty that would be in effect for 7 years from the in-service date as well as being automatically transferred to any subsequent owners without any fees. This is important because it is possible the powertrain warranty will still be in effect for a few more months or even longer making the dealer's warranty offer redundant.

At the price you are quoting make sure the tires have most of their original tread. The headlamp hazing is common and will require continuous polishing unless you apply an adhesive film or reseal them. Crossfires are fairly reliable, but... parts are expensive and in some cases relatively hard to find. Many owners use comparable Mercedes parts for shared components since they are often significantly less expensive.

Unfortunately, car-specific enthusiast forums are usually filled with lots of counterproductive posts on how much you should pay. Some of the same people who brag about buying a $9K Crossfire in one post will complain about the vehicle's depreciation in another. Sure there are a few people that pay siginificantly less than the typical sale price but I'm not sure why that should somehow become the maximum price that anyone else should pay. Also, consider where you live may effect pricing. VA, especially NoVa, is one of the few places in the country where the economy is treading water, so pricing may be higher than someplace like FL where there are lots of Crossfires in a dismal economic situation. Look at resources like Edmunds' using the customized appraisal tool to see what others are supposedly paying. That may help you determine whether you are getting a fair price.

this is from a dealer in VA

the car is in decent condition

Also hows the resale value of this car and maintainence and other costs
You should offer around $10,000 if the car is nice and come up a bit , maybe, and then walk. If he phones, play hard to get.
I have its twin and I love it. My only concern is the color, black is a b!tch to keep clean.

Here is wholesale from the largest auction house. This is for a 2004 Crossfire with your miles. Avg is for both 5sp and autos. Automatics will add $500 to $600. Pizzaguy has it right on the tires. I sell cars on the side---this is what the car is worth.

Jun 7 - Jun 14 2010

Above Average Below

Auction $10,100 $8,825 $7,525

Est. Retail $13,750 $12,050 $10,400

Just bought an 04 Alabaster white/ med. grey leather automatic in 02/10 for $12,500.00. It only had 8,551 miles on it and had been kept in a heated garage and covered (in IN). Never saw rain or snow. Absolutely perfect showroom condition. Original owner only put about 20 miles/ week on it as a weekend pleasure car. Zero stone chips, zero curb rash on wheels. Seller included the custom Crossfire luggage (still in plastic and unused) all books and records (2 oil changes and 1 ABS sensor replaced under warranty, and a new battery) the new original window sticker and even a matchbox sized white crossfire model. All my friends thought it was a brand new '10 model. (I know, they don't have new '10 models). Paid $650.00 to ship in a container to my home in TX. So far only expense has been to change to Rotex Gold Brake Pads on the the front (68.00 for pads, 90.00 for labor) which cut the brake dust about 90%. Wheels actually stay clean now. Also, paid Chrysler $150.00 to transfer the remainder of the 7 yr. / 70k mi powertrain warranty which will run through 07/2011 (Probably won't need it, but it seemed cheap to give me piece of mind) The car is amazing. I feel like I've got something that very few people have and won't feel the need to replace it just because a new version has come out with a minor styling change. I'm 50 and purchased this as a surprise for my son's 16th birthday. It is his first car, and honestly it cost me less than a used Honda Civic coupe. He is elated! Most of his friends parents spent about $15K on first cars for their kids and they all hate my guts, because it looks like a $30K-$40K car to people who aren't familiar with them, and I spent less that $13K. Hope this information helps you. I'm a happy owner, and this forum has a wealth of information to help you be informed and make a good decision. Good Luck

I bought mine April 15th 2010 for $9750 in Dallas, Texas. We have had very little affect from the econimic downturn here.

very little effect? unemployment doubled in dallas county from 4.4% in march 2007 to 8.8% in march 2010.

where the OP is looking, you aren't likely going to be able to negotiate a sub $10K price on a nice Crossfire with comparable mileage. $11K from a retail lot is probably about as low as you'll find. NoVa unemployment only 5%! Of course he could take a road trip and find a cheaper Crossfire and drive it home.

i just don't understand the mentality that anyone that pays more than the last guy has somehow overpaid for the car.

Compared to the rest of the country, Texas faired very well in the economy. D/FW has felt very little from the downturn. Yes, unemployment raised just like everywhere, but 8.8% is nothing compared to the rest of the country.

As far as the mentality of who paid what, with multiple examples on this forum of sub-$10k cars with less than 50k miles on them, I don't think the point can really be argued that paying 11k+ is a little high.

These prices do not include buyers fee, transport and reconditioning that needs to be done. The ones that sold for higher were not in your list. Here is an accurate list:

05/20/10 GTR PHNX Regular $5,800 5,907 Below BLACK 6G 6 No
05/18/10 ARENA Lease $11,000 14,962 Above GRAY 6G A Yes

I did not include the lower mileage because your car does not have 14,000 miles or so. Yes, there is a $150 to $250 buy fee. A Crossfire, if taken care of, will need little to no recon. Usually just a clean up---so little to no money spent here. I have sold several with just a couple hundred over avg wholesale in them.

If you do go forward, drive it a lot. make sure that it does not pop out of first gear---big problem with 04's.

That dealer has a lot of nerve telling a customer "take or leave it " it's not the only Crossfire around. Many on here think you can do better. Keep looking if you can.

You don't really check for it, just drive it. Mine did not do it the day I bought it in Dallas. The next day it did it twice. It does it fairly regularly, and I will be taking it in to get fixed next month. 2nd gear is easy to start in, so I just don't use 1st much right now. If you come to a stop and put it in first before you stop it will not disengage. If you stop and release the clutch, and then you put it in first it does it quite often.
