Angry Is The Tire Hub Fixable???

i bought a set of wheels, took them to get installed, but the tire guy would not do it. he said i have 1 hole where the tire bolts go stripped, and another is cross threaded. he said it was dangerous to drive like that.SO.... can the hole be re-threaded or do i have to buy a new hub? if so how much would a new hub cost??

Talking Re: Is The Tire Hub Fixable???

I added Helicoils to repair - renew my rear wheels cause of worn threads doing all the wheel swaps for autocrossing / street tires. Not hard just have to think, make sure the helicoil is not too DEEP, about 5/8" works well. Woody

Listen to both posts. I did the Waldig helicoil and worked for several of the stripped holes. 1 I wasn't careful and got off center and got a new hub from MrMoPar.

Get a new (used) hub or get the hub that you have re drilled and tapped midway between the existing holes at a machine shop. Doing the Helicoils yourself has risks and you may waste time. With a completely new set of threaded holes you will be safe as some of the other holes may be weak anyway. Do not forget the thread that takes the screw to hold just the rotor to the hub.
If you do re drill, plug the existing holes so they can't be used.
Figure out the cost of both options.
I'd be looking at all my hubs for damage.
