Default Headlight switch question???

I just got the car last week but I can't seem to find out what happens when you turn the switch left. It has 2 arrows? What is that for? I'm at work now and i'm to lazy to go down to see the manual...lol

Those are the left-side and right-side standing lights. Some European requirement about standing lights being on when you park on the sidewalk.

when you pull the headlight switch out, it has two stage. one for front fog lights, why does it go out a second stage as well. I know Mercs have rear fog lamps, and that what the 2nd stage does.

Is there any way of integrating a rear fog lamp into that switch?

The second stage when you have pulled out the switch IS for the rear fog light on UK models.

We have one reversing light and one fog light.

Are the US models different?

I wish I could put my front fogs on without having to have my sidelights and rear lights on. Is this possible without breaking the switch mechanism?

USA models have no rear fog light. And the little red indicator next to the light switch on UK models is also not present on USA models.

I think that's illegal in practically every state here. Some states it's illegal to have the fogs on without the low beams on. Most (all?) states it's illegal to have the fogs on with the high beams on.

If you have no rear fog light, does that mean you get two reversing lights?

I sometimes wish I had my old GT - it had two rear fog lights and two reversing lights. Ho hum, in the days before profit and cost cutting....

You have replied in a fifteen year old thread, you asked in May and replied in August, did you forget where you asked your question?
You do not have to replace the lights, dry them out and make sure the caps are on the rear of the headlight. Water can run down the back of the headlight and get inside. Show us a picture of the rear of the unit.
