Default Upsolute Fuel Economy

Just thought you might like to know about my fuel economy with the Upsolute Chip.

Before, I was getting 290-305 miles per tank (full to the brim to right to empty). Consistent for the first 3500 miles.

After, I am now getting 325-335 miles per tank for the last two tankfuls.

I do not believe I have altered my driving style. I am actually going much faster most of the time.

Is this a common finding, as the increase in range/economy is more noticeable than I was expecting.

I picked up about 2 mpg for both city and highway.

I'm relatively newly chipped and I'm finding it difficult to keep my foot off the gas long enough to compare "normal" driving.

Having said that, I do find I'm getting more miles before a gas up is needed. I also find I'm getting places quicker, hehe.

It took me three quarters of a tank to get to Toronto, where I had mine chipped.
It used less than half a tank to get home.

I'm going to figure out my actual milage when I fill up next, probably not until Friday or Saturday.

I'm more impressed with the fuel economy increase than the boost in horses.

English Bob, where did you get yours chipped in the UK and how much was it? When I have enough miles on my car I want to get it done.

Saldous,

Simon Coe of CCC Technology (based near Sheffield) has chipped at least 3 XFs. He did me (in Staines) and bmerfan (Birmingham) on the same day. He will travel to you. Cost is ’305. There is no VAT as Simon is not VAT registered.

Highly professional and I would recommend him. He will go out with you for a drive to make sure everything is OK. I was a little worried about having it done. Now no regrets

Am even thinking of letting him chip the Voyager

Excellent. Thanks for the info. When I have a few more miles on the clock I'll give him a call.

saldous,
what are you waiting for, mines only done 2200 since last December and i got it chipped at 1500 a couple of months ago.Give Simon a ring and exploit the extra power now,the longer you wait the more you'll regret you put it off.(and you'll save the money in improved mpg)

I thought you had to have a good 2-3000 miles on the engine before chipping?

I also have concerns over insurance. anyone told their insurance company yet and how much of a difference did it make to the premium? i.e. how much more!

Why would you tell your insurance company. There's no way they would know it's been done and even if they did know I doubt it would effect your rates. Not in the States anyway. I'm not sure how UK insurance companies work.

I had about 3,000 on mine when I got it chipped. But remember I was the first to get the Upsolute done and it took awhile to find a company that did chip tunning locally. If I had found them sooner I probably would have gotten it done with less mileage. The only other chip tunning that was on the market for the Crossfire was PowerChip and I was not willing to remove my ECU and sent it to someone. I wanted someone that if a problem came up could deal with it right then and there.

You would have to be very unlucky for anyone to detect the remapped ECU without putting it on a Rolling Road. In the event of a serious accident it is likely that this would not be possible. And who is to say that the dealer did not chip it before selling it. You would not be able to tell if this has happened. Apparently some dealers chip their demonstrators to help sell the cars. ECUs could be mixed up in the workshop?!

I am not recommending that Insurance Companies are not informed about changes in the spec, but I have yet to meet someone who has.

Would be interested to know if anyone has obtained a revised quote from their I/C.

At the end of the day you are talking about a relatively small increase in power since there is no Turbo or SuperCharger.

You always run the risk that if it is detected, your insurance will be invalidated.

But hey, so is your warranty. It is more likely that the dealer will detect it during a service interval.

Chpping makes a difference of 4-5 mpg highway and 2-3 city in my '04. The power isn't significant, but you CAN tell.

After several months I have measured no difference in MPG.

Combined with K&N filters I do really notice more power.

I also have really noticed that the exhaust tips stay much cleaner, not getting black at anything close to the same rate as before chipping.

what does it mean to be chipped? i'm assuming it's literally a computer chip of some sort that you install in the car?

how much does it cost? is it easy enough to install at home?

You can get the engine management chip changed (the ECU chip). This controls how the engine works and the new chip gives better performance and more horse power. Cost is about $300 or $600.

Don't you think that allowing more air from our front grills will help in cooling down the airflow towards the engine? This new grill plus the Upsolute chip maybe be a good combo!
