Dan,

The 13,926 are total U.S. sales since June 03 when Crossfire was first introduced 14 months ago. This results in an average of around 1K vehicles per month. It might be more than 911 sales, but it is far below the 2K/month DCX had planned for the Crossfire. Keep in mind that the total # of Crossfires produced so far is at least 35K (based on VIN#s of cars currently for sale.) If at least 3/4 of the total Crossfires produced are intended for the U.S. market, I would guess that there are about as many unsold Crossfires sitting on lots as there are parked in driveways and garages. If this is true, it would be reasonable to assume that the current inventories (of coupes, in particular) will last an entire year (two months inventory might be considered desirable). This leaves a few likely possibilities (IMHO):

1. DCX will stop producing Crossfires within the next year or two.
2. DCX will slow production to around 10K units per year. (Keep in mind that DCX only sold 6-8K SLKs a year in the U.S.)
3. DCX will further slash prices and offer additional incentives (like $5K rebates).
4. DCX will employ a widespread marketing campaign to sell more units (yeah, right!)

I believe that if DCUK actually advertised the car, then it would begin to sell.

They seem to be concentrating on advertising the new SLK. Brilliant advert though.

So, the DC production plan of 15,000 to 24,000 Crossfires per year was never aimed at the F-150 series truck or the Honda Accord.

It's an image changing plan. A follow-up to the Viper and Prowler. Also it makes a statement that the DC merger can mean good thing for both makes.

It's working on me anyway.

I resisted even looking at the Crossfire for a long time because of the Chrysler side of things. I even leased the car, instead of bought it, so I could just walk away if I couldn't live with the car. After owning the Crossfire for five months I love this car more and more all the time and my perception of Chrysler has changed completely.

The Crossfire is a seriously excellent car. The new 300c and Magnum are new directions for the auto industry, not just for Chrysler (DC), and both are selling very very well. The SRT cars are excellent packages and very well executed. Now that Mercedes is coming out with their own version of the Pacifica I understand how the two working together might be even better than the individual parts on their own.

Even the dealers and service centers are showing some signs of trying to get seriously better. Some folks are getting very good results from their dealers and I think the corporate direction is to bend the old line problems out of the system completely.

The Crossfire line is just beginning to serve it's purpose and is not ready to be retired yet. DC is making lot of really good and interesting new cars. If DC can keep this level of leadership up I think they may become a truely great car company.

Sorry for the long ramble.
