Me, a clear highway, and a 350z
Me, a clear highway, and a 350z
Well i was going home, when this 350z was ziggin and zaggin through traffic. Well he came up to me went in front of me and punched it. SO I figured what the hey. I punched it along with him. Was a long strech of empty highway i was the lead car. I thought there was no way i was going to keep up but I tried anyways. Well i did better than i thought i would have. Did i win? No. Did i break even? No. He slowly crept away until i let off at about 110ish. Not as bad as I whomped the 350z with my mach  But the XF did better than i thought. Who would have known I can break the tires loose at 60mph. Did a down shift to 3rd. ANd berreek the tires went. Reminded me of my Mach. It never did that until i put the kandn's in. Either it is starting to break in or the kandn's are a great mod for this thing. Going to track soon. Give ya guys and gals some numbers.
nice job bullseye. i never posted it but i had a similar type of race but it was with a 350z and a s2k. no one really pulled away. i saw them playing and decided to join in, missed my exit and ended up ten minutes late for work. between 80 and 120 they both put maybe a half car to a car on me. our car does decent on top end. check out saskins post on his new intake. im interested.

My ex 350z was quite a bit quicker than the Crossfire. It really is quite a bit faster than you guys realize. But there are two sides to that....
Lets do some quick math using numbers that are fairly typical of both cars:
Crossfire quarter mile = 14.8 sec at 95 mph
350Z quarter mile = 14.0 sec at 97 mph
Difference in time is about 0.8 sec.
Speed of either is around 100 mph, which is around 150 feet per second.
At 0.8 seconds of difference going about 150 fps, the 350Z will finish the quarter about 150 feet per second * 0.8 seconds = 120 feet sooner. This is about 6 car lengths. That really is not a lot of distance from the perspective of either person in either car.
That is why I keep reading that the races between the 350z, S2000 (just a bit slower than the 350z), and other low 14 second cars (uuggh, and some of the TT's as well) to the Crossfire seems to be "close" from the perspective of the Crossfire driver. But this is very deceiving. When you get in either of the two cars, the acceleration difference is quite noticeable. And not by a small margin either, even though "seeing" that the 350Z is only 6 or so car lengths ahead. It takes quite a bit more acceleration to get 120 feet ahead in only 1320 feet. Damn, that difference is almost 10% of the entire 1/4 mile!
In Conclusion, yes the Crossfire is only a few car lengths behind, but the feel of the acceleration in the faster car is much stronger.
Did I ever mention that I like my Crossfire 1,000 times better than the 350Z? It really is, overall, a much nicer, albeit slower, car.
And only a "little" bit slower when thinking about it in a certain way!

I ofcourse was NOT behind the wheel, but loved being the passenger when my boyfriend had my Crossfire up to 120 mph. It was incredible!!!! Ofcourse considering what he drives I had the utmost confidence in letting him go for it. He said it felt like it could definitely keep going. Maybe next time we will see just how far...............
There werent 6 car lengths in between us more like four. SO your 2 car lengths too high 6-2=4 so 4car lengths = distance between me and 350z on highway. So if you take that and make it equal m. M=Less than half the distance my mach 1 put on the 350z track. And that means if it was less than have that would mean more than double. So m x 2.5= 10
That would make it 10 car lengths my mach 1 and I put on the 350z. And what does this all mean you make ask. Absolutely Nothing. Which the Z became when he thought hecould keep up with my mach 1.
I know what you mean though pek and dan. I drove the 350z and was underwhelmed with the power kinda like i am with the XF. But there is a definite power difference in feel and output between the 2. But not as a big difference between the mach and the 350z. Night and day. The 350z felt like a 99 and up Mustang GT. And the crossfire feels like a modded Mini Cooper S I drove. Man that thing was cool. SOunded like a baby cobra with the blower wine being so loud  Just my .02

Mine won't even break loose dumping it into 3rd at 6k RPM's from top end of 2nd gear (~55mph). These tires are way too sticky for that.

Thanks for the info Heb80.
When I was in Chicago in 1989 I got a ride in a Mustang (5.0 litres I think) - was impressed with its straight line speed - was a little worried when we turned. We got trounced by a VW Jetta GTi that has been modified. Don't know if that was down to the cars or the drivers.
