Default Help - Check Engine Light !?!

My check engine light came on tonight.

About 3 minutes after I started up the xfire i was merging into traffic. I pretty much just took off as fast as you can. Then I don't think the light was on, but about 30 seconds later I floored it again to get past some other traffic, and thats when I noticed the light.

It drives exactly the same though after that, which was only about 10 miles. Anyway I'm annoyed. This whole next week I have a very special class for my new job, so I don't even know if I have time to take it to a dealer!

Has anyone elses gone off and what was it for?

Should I really take it to a dealer, or I can just unplug the battery for a few minutes and see if it comes on again?

Default This may or may not help...

I just wrecked my audi two months ago. I had hot rodded it significantly. My check engine light would come on all the time for stupid stuff. Nothing that affected the performace of the car accept having an annoyed driver having to stare at a check engine light. Most times it went on when I pushed it hard. All the extra air flow from the huge turbo would scare the computer. The On Board Diagnostic systems on these cars are very sophisticated. I would venture a guess that the crossfire is no different especially since most of the parts are Benz. German engineering baby!!! Take your car to the dealership as soon as you can. If you need to wait because you have stuff to do then make sure you dont tell them youve been driving it around with that light on. I hope its something minor like a loose connection or an air flow issue, you have any mods done? My mechanic hated the On Board Diagnostics, most times it comes on for silly reasons, but sometimes its something serious. Dont ruin your baby!!! Good Luck!!!

Make sure your gas cap is tight.

If not it sends a signal to the computer and cannot
get the pressure it needs under vacuum to operate
to normal...

3 clicks!

I have no engine mods done whatsoever.

I'll check the gas cap but last time I filled up was a week, 150 miles ago.

I'd go straight to a dealer, you don't want to leave it and find you have done more damage.
