My "chirp" alarm is non-active
My "chirp" alarm is non-active
My 04 crossfire coupe is having a few issues as i have just purchased it. One that bothers me the most is that the chirping alarm wont work. Its not a fuse, It has not blown. When i press the button to sound the alarm the lights flash as normal, but no noise. When i lock the car it is the same, Lights but no noise. Are there known fixes for this? I searched for it but didnt find much with my issue. Thanks.

They didn't come with a "chirp" alarm. It is working properly - only flashes the lights. If you replace the alarm with the new part # available it has a soft chirp. If you want to add a chirp there is a thread on adding a radio shack part to make it chirp. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ighlight=alarm Hope this answers your question, Ron

This is cool. Thanks. But why would my anti theft alarm not work? Is there no noise for that either? Seems stupid it that's true.
Re: My "chrip" alarm is non-active
Sorry I thought your only problem was the chirp. If you set the alarm off it should make a lot of noise. If you press the panic button it should too. If it doesn't make any noise I would assume (but I have been wrong before!) that the battery in the alarm is dead. Usually makes a sound if it is dying but if it was dead when you bought it you will probably need to replace the alarm (siren) - it is on the firewall and there is a write up on it: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...lved-read.html and also a write up on adding new batteries: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ighlight=alarm

Re: My "chrip" alarm is non-active
Big question would be, is it in fact the alarm module or just a dead battery?
I'm facing a similar problem. About a year ago, my alarm kept chirping randomly and I had to pull the fuse. Then one day after putting the fuse back in and the alarm started chirping again the chirp got more and more silent and then stopped altogether.
Haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet but I assume that sounds like the batteries went dead. Why not start with that yourself instead of buying a whole new alarm module?

changed my alarm siren about 2 weeks ago now has chirp when setting alarm & also when turning off ! Opened up old alarm just to look at it & see the batteries yep they were bad & leaked & ate up board inside alarm siren no wonder it didnt work ! So Im guess these last about 10 yrs ??? Then time to get a new one !!!

I agree! When I called the MB dealership near me in the UK I expected the unit to be a special order and was surprised when they told me they always keep a good stock on the shelf as they are always replacing failed units on a regular basis.
When I replaced the batteries in mine I attached a multimeter to the battery pack and monitored it for a few hours to see if there was any form of charge / discharge cycle going on. Over the 6 hours I monitored I didn't notice any discharge at all. So fried nicads are a distinct possibility.

Now I know that all batteries age and lose effectiveness with time, but these Varta batteries just seem bad, or fragile to me. They seem to be the battery of choice for Mercedes, but I am unimpressed with them.
I surmised in one of those other threads that if your problem has been ongoing for a while, you may as well just replace the Siren as opposed to soldering in new batteries. When these Vartas go they leak all over the board, and it doesn't take long for the acid to ruin the board.
