Just won a Crossfire!
Just won a Crossfire!
I just won a Crossfire Coup Limited. I went to the dealer and test drove one and decided that I will sell mine when it arrives. Do I have any chance of selling it to a private owner, or should I just take the lousy trade-in at the dealer and get a vehicle of my choosing?
BTW, I'm already aware of tax liabilities, TTL, etc.

Re: Just won a Crossfire!
No substitutions, so I have to take the car. Here are the contest rules: http://www.winwithshell.com/sweepstakes_rules.html
Re: Just won a Crossfire!
If you have the time I would go to a few Chrylser Dealers and see if they would take the Crossfire upon arrival as a trade ; youn should at least get dealer's invoice out of the car. If you get registration etc. on the car you will also have sales tax to pay. If possible , find a dealer that will work with you on this. There has to be a way to save a few bucks and get the most in cash value out of the deal. Also check on the web (Kelly Blue Book and NADA prices) This will give you an idea of cash value for the Crossfire. Also Mastercard appears to be the sponsor and they have a say on how the prize is awarded. Try to negotiate a cash deal with them.

Right now the highest offer is $23k. Since we don't know the color or options, we are assuming base model Crossfire Limited. He said this number could go up depending on the options.
Cindy2 is right if I could somehow trade it in without it ever leaving the lot or going into my name that would be great. At this time, I don't know how to do that. I'm guessing the Sponser will require me to take the car as they want me to go to a Shell gas station to gas up. (I also won $1000 in Shell gasoline.)
Re: Just won a Crossfire!
Did a quick check with a friend of mine that knows cars. If the Crossfire is a base limited, and an automatic it invoices for around 32,280. A 2004 Crossfire with low miles is worth 26,485. There are not a lot of options on the Crossfire. The 2005 models give three options; base model coupe; Limited; and roadster. The options are dictated by the model. The Limited is equal to the 2004 Crossfire price new as the 2004 was a loaded vehicle with the only choices on options being the automatic and all weather tires. I hope you get more than 23,000 as this dealer is lowballing you.

I think I'll try to sell it to a private party first. Dan, I will keep you posted.

Nice Win!
I would think your best move, if the rules allow, is to find a buyer that you can take to the dealer with you and transfer title direct to their name and they pay the taxes etc. You would work out the price in advance and they would cut you a certified cheque on delivery of the vehicle. You get the agreed to price and they get their car at a fair price.
If this was "topdown", I would be interested myself.

I've been accused of running a scam on another forum, so I need to prove this is real for all that are interested:

Re: Just won a Crossfire!
Congrats on winning the crossfire. I would sell it too, pay off my lease on the XF and use it as a beater for the winter, and buy a car with performance in mind.
If you can get 23k trade in I would hold out for more but you will get almost 2k in tax savings. If you buy a car for that much or more. SO that would put you right around 25k. ANd you dont have to deal with the headaches of dealing with a private sale and "Iffy" people. I think you can get them up to 24k. Either way get rid of the crossfire. The prices are plummeting fast as the titanic hit the bottom of the ocean floor.
