Rotated tires today -
08-29-2009
, 10:23 PM
So I rotated my tires today and the back wheels both had the inside edge of the wheels worn down 1/32 or less but almost exactly the same. Kinda looked like one does when you rub the curb but on the inside exactly the same on both almost machined but ruffer. I looked in the wheel wells thinking something was rubbing......nothing anywhere. The wheels look perfect other than the inner lip. 2005 roadster 13K miles. The car rides perfectly at any speed, hands off the wheel. Any ideas?

if your describing what i think you are, it is probably the camber, i think the car comes with it in a bit, maybe it helps with turning

Are you not the first owner of the car? I have seen simular conditions on the inside lip when the car drops off the side of the road. Falling off the payment and then trying to get back on will cause curb rash in the inside lip.

If you are at 13,000 on the original tires; I think you are rotating tires for maybe 5M miles.
I just left Vegas and we drove 40 to the canyon----I would not like to run an X-fire on those roads. I know you do not have the snow damage; but your potholes really surprise a midwesterner. We expect them; the desert holes surprises us. Also, we logged the whole trip; 1 Crossfire Coupe--Red--California Plates.
He or she looked really good moving at 90 or so! I had a rental

I am not the original owner, just got the car. Bothe rears are the same so I don't think it's a drop off thing

I'm trying to figure out what you are saying.........is the WHEEL worn down........or the TIRE?? And, it's 1/32 WIDE?? I'm guessing we aren't talking about tread depth here....do you have pics?

Ya I'm sorry not describing very well and I should have taken pictures. The tires are perfect its the wheels I am talking about. Say you had the wheel laying flat the ground inner side up, looking straight down, that is where it is worn down. The even stranger twist is I am running Contis and they have a lip that sticks out and kinda covers the edge of the rim and they are perfect no scuffing or wear.
Thanks for the help,
Dave

Wow....okay, couple of guesses here. These aren't the original tires....someone changed them and the tire machine/tool really did a number on the wheels or someone put them on the front and that's where the rub came from. The later guess is your best bet.

Could it be damage from a lift or maybe those guides that they have in some car washes? There is nothing that should rub the wheels on a stock car. I can understand some inner tire wheel due to camber, but not a perfect tire and a marred wheel.
