Default Metal Tow Eye??? - 11-24-2009 , 08:25 PM

Why do roadsters have a tow eye in the rear? Is that really for pulling it? Ron

Thanks all for your help! Ron

most cars that come from overseas has a tie down front and rear , so they don;t roll off the boat, yet the coupe has a tow hook in the lower grille not sure about the roadster. jim

These are properly referred to as "Recovery Hooks" and are meant to be used for pulling the vehicle from an awkward position onto a road surface. Nothing more.

NEVER to be used for towing.

Here's a link to a way to cover the rear tow hook. Someone else on here used a cover that was made for a Volkswagon I think. Do a search for that.
Rear Tow Hook Cover.

Red 04' 6-Spd Manual Coupe
Cheap Schucks Cup Holders (Better than Factory); Cheap Rubbermaid Floor Mats from Walmart (Saving Originals); Cheap Costco Backup Cam; Cheap Radio Shack Lock Tone Mod; Cheap RearTowhook Cover; Cheap Side Window Sun Visor; Cheap Beanbag Lumbar & Knee Support; Magnaflow Catback Exhaust; 2nd Hand Factory Car Cover; Xfire Luggage.
All Good! See Links.

When my car was grounded (by a mouse) for two months, the guy who showed up to take my car to the dealer wouldn't even use that hook to pull my car up on his flat bed.
He said they've had problems with the "hooks" breaking when they torque em down for transport.

There's a visible rear tow hook and a covered one (behind the bumper -- little squarish cover) on the front. They are for tie downs but when my SRT6 was towed, it was used to wind it up the flatbed. Standard in German cars -- look at BMWs, Mercedes, etc. I would not use either to tow the car, another car, or pull a F150 out of a mud hole.

I think the best way to describe them as something that is to be used if you up to your knees in sh*t, figuratively or literally. Never a good day when you have to use them.
