Default Trunk Lid Jammed

EDIT 8-13-11: Read this thread, but make SURE you read post 73!
EDIT 7-24-2019: Read this thread as well:

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...echanisms.html

I was surprised that a search turned up nothing. Am I the first idiot to do this?

I apparently allowed my leather jacket to get jammed in the trunklid latch. The lid is not closed all the way (so the top won't go down) and I can't get the lid opened. Removing the two hex screws at the latch button did no good.

The locking mechanism still works, but again, no matter how hard I press the button to open the hatch, it won't open.

If I could get the top to start to go down, after the lid opens, I guess I could reach in and try the emergency release... but I am really locked out of the trunk now!

HELP!

And yea, I did a search of "Decklid" as well.

I just realized something... my coat is not in the trunk. I put my Bible and folder in the trunk, and took my coat OUT of the trunk and put it in the passenger seat.

The lid is definitely not closed all the way... but I can't imagine what is in the way - maybe a pen fell out of my folder and is trapped under the lid or in the latch??

If I could only convince the car that the lid is closed, I could get the top to start going down. I am now thinking the emergency release might just work if I can get to it.

But, very probably, it's time for a trip to the dealer. If they can get the top to go down, I don't know what else they can do except to try to get to the emergency release. I can't guess at any other thing they can try .... ?

MY ONLY HOPE: At this point, I'll take a few days and see if I can figure out a way to trick the car into thinking the lid is closed all the way, that way, i can lower the top (well, get the window to unlatch and the lid to open) so that I can attempt to get past the divider to the emergency release. Just gotta figure out what wires tell the BCM / Top Control Module that the lid is closed.

NOW I am wondering if I let something get trapped in the latch - or has the latch just gone bad (and with no bumper to bumper warranty ).

I think you might be setting your self up for the darwin awards. What ever you do, do not stick your head under the lid and push the button

It seems like I remember reading at some point that you can use the multi tool to manually lower/raise the convertible top. that should allow you to get to the emergency release under the lid.

I have been giving this situation a lot of thought unfortunatly to manually lower the top you first need to have the trunk lid open the allen wrench releases the back window so it can be lifted up allowing you to use the muiltifuntion tool,,,,,

edited : maybe access through tag lights to a cable release ??

Right Morgan.... can't get to the catch under the cover with the lid closed!

And doc, I have TRIED and TRIED - I am at a brick wall here!

It's REALLY bugging me - only thing I can think is a pen fell outta my folder and is laying somewhere that the lid cant' close all the way and maybe this is putting pressure on the latch so it won't/can't open. Will still try a few more times, but I WISH I could get the top's cover to open so I can work my hand down in there !!!!!!

EDIT Tried the tag light thing... got the lens/bulb out but could not see how to remove the socket assembly.... will try at that again.

Hey pizzaguy, sorry, I should have read through the post that I referenced, and I would have realized that it would not work for you. I hope that you get it resolved short of pulling out a really big pry bar.

P.S. What did you do to get your avatar image banned? LOL You wild and crazy guy.

That "image banned" thing is a joke, just so everyone knows!!!

How the HELL do you get these tag lights out? I pullled the screws out, and lights/lenses off --- but the socket assemblies refuse to come out. Probably bolted in from the other side or something.

Hey, those roadster trunks are pretty useless anyway.

But not being able to put the top down would suck.

I just went downstairs and pulled the left (drivers side ) tag light lens and bulb it looks like the housing pops out and the emergency cable runs close to the opening ,i'm looking for a diagram of the light housing to see what kind of clips are holding it in....

If the emergency cable is within reach, it would be worth it to me to destroy a tag light holder to get it out ---- I thinik the emergency release is my only hope.

And even it may not be much of a hope.

Not really useless........ It holds my racing helmet and a handful of tools needed for the track. LOL If I could just figure out how to get a couple of drag slicks in there, haha

Ipressed down on the lid, and my neighbor hit the button.

Got the cover open, and the cover on the underside of the lid off. Taking bolts out of the latch... looks like the latch has failed. EMergency release "snapped" and the little arm (plastic ) is broken. Making progress.. can I disconnect the battery so the top won't go down the ............ oops, looks like pressure is gone .... tried to close but I held it. still open now
