trip to MB Dealer -
02-02-2010
, 08:06 PM
Hello new to this forum and if I am posting out of line please let me know
2005 Roadster beautiful car, 34,000 miles, bought it with 30,000 a yr
ago, So im not complaining,
The Local MB Dealer was a great visit, they put the recoomemened oil in
unlike the Chrysler dealer did , they used penzoil 5 w 40 ,
a couple little problems they found which i was expecting
recomendations
Failed----- replace 13 pin connector ( transmission harness bushing) found transmission fluid leak $104.00
Failed----- replace flex disc (found torn rear flex disc) $304.29
Failed----- replace steering shock steering shock is leaking $146.19
not bad! does this sound about right for these parts and includes labor
from the MB dealer thank -you for any advice.
Very Proud owner of the crossfire, I want to keep up all service>

seems expensive to me...but welcome aboard....read thru the threads and see what you think for yourself...my steering stabilizer was $40 installed by me...fix tranny leak, by me. No need for new pin in my case...

The one that seems odd to me is the torn flex disk.... assuming they mean the drive shaft flex coupling.. How did that get torn?... Considering shop labor rates and flat billable hours, that might not be a terrible bill.... DIY is a big money saver...

The recommended oil, per a sticker on my 2005s, is Mobil1 0W-40 synthetic. I usually put in 5 qts of 5W-30 and top off with 3 qts of 0W-40 since I can buy the former for $22/bottle at Wal-mart. Since I drive them in the summer only, I firmly believe the 5W makes no difference. But I do put in Mobil1.
The dealer service costs look reasonable. My roadster has 32k miles and other than the fan under recall, no repairs at all.

My tranny leak was covered under warranty... If I ever see my car again, I want to replace the steering thing.

Wow Thanks guys for the quick advice, will have to look around at some old posts, reguarding the steering shock, see if it is an easy fix,
the other two issues are beyond my mechanical capabilities <smile>
I did bring it to the Chrysler Dealership last time and found no issues
which made me believe they just changed the oil and nothing else.
thanks for the tips and advice, No one said it was outrageous , so
I will take back to the MB dealership and have the needed repairs done,
I would much rather know something is wrong and have it fixed then
wait till it is a bigger issue,
Thanks Again and will have to join the forum soon and support the
Crossfire cause,
I see mike is from Oregon , I am from Pasco, WA

I was surprised to hear that MB dealer would do work on the crossfire. Here in Boston (northeast region) they will not service chrysler crossfire. Anybody else run into this problem? thanks

Same situation in BC - The MB dealer will not do any work on my car. Sad but I have found a mechanic that only works on MB cars and he is happy to work with me at a much lower rate than the MB dealer Sub note the MB dealer has lower rates for the SLK than the Chrysler rates for the Crossfire.

Same in AZ. They were very nice. When I was having my real Mercedes "B" serviced I asked and they said we only service products that have a Mercedes star on them.

I still think you're lucky to get an MB dealer to look at your car
I may not have ended up where I intended to go,
but I know I've ended up where I'm intended to be.

i called and talked to a service rep at i think park place in the metroplex, they wont touch anything that isnt a "mercedes" lol i really wanted to say how bout you pop the hood and have a looksee! apparently the time before last i had my car serviced they didnt even put in mobile one! i was so pissed! this last time though i made sure that they put in mobile 1 european car formula, its amazing how chryslers service techs are on the same level as their quality(excluding the x fire of course!) anyways wish i could get a MB dealer to service my car just for the peace of mind(prob around the same cost as well) JR

Nope, not quite right.
The recommended oil, as per your OWNERS MANUAL, is any oil that meets the MB 229.3 or MB 229.5 spec. This can be either 0W-40 or 5W-40 oil.
That sticker you looked at was placed on your car because Mobil paid for that sticker to be placed there, just as it does on many other cars built by many other car companies.
There are much better engine oils out there than Mobil 1 0w-40.

wow thanks guys for the info,.
My local MB Dealer has no problems working on the Crossfire , They told me
it is basically a SLK with Chrysler name on it, I should feel very
fortunate i guess that I have a local MB dealer to work with then the
Local Chrysler Dealer what a JOKE!
I will look into the steering shck myself but the other parts I am going to have them
replace as it is beyond my mechanical means,. <smile>
ThankYou Everyone
and Mike ill let ya know when i get down the River <smile>

I haven't found one in San Antonio.
Perhaps we should add a sticky that people can put where they have an MB dealer servicing their car?

Someone told me they saw a Crossfire at MB of Boerne. My friend pointed it out to one of the service managers and he proceeded to give my friend a lecture on how it was an SLK made with Mercedes parts. They were working on it so I would have to imagine they will work on other Crossfires (just won't accept the Chrysler warranty). Never brought my car there but one day I will. I heard they are a great dealership and give great service. The Chrysler dealers in SA stink!
