Pricing
From the Chrysler Employee Daily News 031504:
Price of Crossfire reduced by 15 percent
The Chrysler Group cut the price of the Chrysler Crossfire coupe almost 15 percent to less than $30,000 to woo customers with lower prices rather than big discounts. gThe idea is to offer better engineered vehicles at a better price point,h said Scott SlagleChrysler Car Marketing. Auto analyst Jesse Toprak of Edmunds.com said a less-expensive Crossfire should attract more mainstream buyers. gYou could almost consider Crossfire a steal.h (Detroit News)
Chrysler Crossfire coupe (manual transmission) $29,920 (includes $875 destination fee)
Crossfire Limited (manual transmission) $34,620 (includes $875 destination fee)

It seems to me that Chrysler is going to price the crossfire out of the market. You can get a G35 coupe with 280 hp or a year old Boxster S for the same price. Either one is a heck of a lot more bang for the buck. Greed will kill this car if they are not careful. If they increase the hp and come down on the price, Chrysler will have a real winner on their hands. On a personal note, I think the roadster is one heck of a beautiful car and is a potential money pit if Chrysler markets this car correctly. A 300 hp convertible for 40K is the threshold that they need to be shooting for. Otherwise it will go the way of the prowler.
I am not saying that Chrysler needs to sell the SRT for 40K. But there is a big space in their product line between 215hp and 330hp. Who in their right mind would pay 35K for an impotent 215hp convertible? It's almost embarrassingly laughable. There are too many other choices in the marketplace to give this car serious consideration.
It is also unfair to compare a consumer of an SLK with that of a potential Crossfire purchaser. You are dealing with two different breeds of cat. The price of a crossfire has little if any impact on the decision making of a potential SLK buyer.
