top spring question
top spring question
Just had a new top installed on my 05 limited under the x31 program. When I dropped the car off the top worked flawlessly but the first time I tried to drop the top after the installed new top... the small section that pops up after you un latch the lever by the windshield. .. never popped up. I took it back to the dealer and now they informed me the springs that make that section pop up are now worn out and needs to be replaced. Is this a typical wear out item or is the dealership trying to cover something up?

Re: top spring question
Sounds to me like they don't know what they are doing. It was fine before they touched it, right?
Chapter 23 of the service manual is the only place you will find your answer, and it won't be easy to find - the descriptions are horrible.
But we know this: The springs didn't wear out in the instant they touched the car.

Re: top spring question
Yes... you are correct., everything was great when I left it. I spoke with the main service manager and he insists that the springs wore out over night and he is taking the word of the installer. He also suggested that the new top caused the failure. I then spoke with the GM of the dealership and informed him of the situation. He informed me he would see what he can do. I also called chrysler and they informed me that the springs should not have failed over night due to the new top. They are escalating the case and a case manager will be contacting me in the next few days. So now the waiting game starts.
