2005 Roadster top problems
2005 Roadster top problems
I have a 2005 Roadster Limited and am having problems lowering top. The top was recently replaced under warranty because of rear window falling out. Job by Chrysler was less than satisfactory! I now have problem lowering top. When it is unlatched the windows go down normally but when switch is activated I only get a red light and beeping sound. I lowered top manually using you tube video from another post and low and behold the top goes up OK. I have now done several times and it goes up OK but will not go down. Need Help??
Re: 2005 Roadster top problems
Most likely the "top raised switch" located just above the passenger's right ear.
You can see it with the top partially raised.
There is a plastic slider that actuates the switch, this switch tells the top electronics that you have released the top latch and that the top is clear of the header.

Right on, the plastic slider was the problem. Apparently the technician broke it when installing the new top as a small piece of plastic was still in holder. Off to Chrysler tomorrow for fix, hopefully they can get part. Any suggestions where I might get it for them or better yet install myself??

You might check with Klaus at Top Hydraulics | Rebuilt and Upgraded Convertible Top Cylinders, Pumps, Hydraulic Lines - Top Hydraulics, Inc, he might have one.

Re: 2005 Roadster top problems
I once wrote a long, detailed DIY diagnostic procedure to guide people thru the easy and common issues. I posted it once or twice, but when my drive died some time ago, I lost it. It was not all that helpful, so many people just simply lack the skills to use a DVM effectively. Maybe I should retire and do full time top diagnostics.

Re: 2005 Roadster top problems
Haven't posted in a while, xfire running smoothly, not problems, knock on wood. So as some of you may remember, was having a difficult time get my top to go up or down, after having 2 cylinders rebuilt. Finally got to the point that I said was going to resolve myself to having a manual top. Long story short, had tried reversing the hydraulic lines on one cylinder and finally just unhooked, the passenger cylinder, from the top. Well went out yesterday and decided to change lines back to way Klaus had told me and re-attached to the top. I could never get the top to go down, so I said to myself, self lets put top down and see if it will close. Tried that and low and behold, the top came up, everything close and latched. I said heart be still, lets see what happens the other way. And guess what, yep, it worked perfectly. I racked my feeble brain, small hammer, trying to figure out what was different or that I had done different? The only conclusion I can come to, was on my 1st try, way back when, I didn't hold the button down long enough and let the hydraulic fluid refill the lines, after my purge. And my manual opening and closing had done that and that why it now works. An I'm happy as a pig in crap.
