Dripping Gas
Dripping Gas
Roadster 2006 .. Vehicle sat for about 7 weeks. Started right up, and as I let her idle to
warm up, I smelled gas. After moving her out of the garage, I noticed a puddle of gas inward of the passenger rear tire .. got underneath and nothing dripping at that point, but
the shroud protecting the gas tank, wet around that drain hole.
Question: tank was almost 3/4 full; would this be enough fuel to push it out of the overflow
tube? It has never happened before. Drove it for approx. 50 miles and nothing; no smell or
dripping underneath; it was dry as a bone. Is this normal operating procedure when a car
sits for a long time ? Thanks 7,000 mile 2006 Roadster ...

Re: Dripping Gas
While your under there looking around, check for any damage done BEFORE you stored it. It might not have been noticeable before you stored it and now that you took her out it got noticed. Suggest you put it on a set of stands with the fuel pump/filter cover removed, you might see where it leaks. Better yet, you really don't have to 'start the motor, just have someone 'cycle' the iggy to on (not to start). That will kick in the fuel pump. If it is opened up (the cover) and your help turns on the key to 'ON', look for any leakage. Just a suggestion! Be careful while under there (which is why it is better on stands, right? Good luck!

yes that is where the fuel pump and filter/regulator are located. the factory pinch clamps are not tighten-able. if the car has gone 40k miles since its last fuel filter/regulator change now would be the time to swap that out and replace the lines there. we include new fuel line clamps with the filter automatically and I can include some top quality hose for you also so long as you ask when ordering.
you can do the job by backing the car up onto oil change ramps, wear glasses so gas doesn't get in your eyes
