Default Top problems

Ok the top does not work properly. When the D handle is released the windows go down. The first few tries the rear center latch on the top released but doesn't now. After the windows open you push the switch you can hear the hydraulics running but that is all. The trunk partition is in the proper position. The red switch light flashes but no beeping. Any ideas of where to start diagnosing?

Sounds like low fluid to me as well. If the pump is running and things are not moving, there is no pressure. Simple as that.

Try releasing the pressure (or waiting ten minutes and it will release on it's own - or disconnect the battery and it will release instantly) and raise the lid manually. You can then look down in the driver's side rear wheel well and see the fluid in the tank - it should be well over 1/2 full, I believe 3/4 full when the system is at rest.

But if the fluid IS low, you have it leaking somewhere. Perhaps by raising the lid you will see where the leak is, as all lines and cylinders are pretty much visible with the lid raised.

Manual raising of the top is described in the owner's manual. What they do NOT tell you, I do, right here:

Ok don't have the special tool to raise and lower the top. Looked in glove box and center console. Bought the car used in 2011 so may be missing. Any ideas on how to locate one?

Go look in ALL the cavities in the trunk AND the bag between the seats.

And there is a source for that tool.... I just gotta find it.

Dammit, Greg, I looked and looked on their site and could NOT find it.
Apparently this is the one thing common between a Crossfire and a CLK320...I knew the SLK320 was not 'it' in this case.

BOOKMARK ADDED!

Ok found the release tool in the trunk. Not sure how to post a picture but the reservoir is low (about 30%full) below the low mark on the reservoir and the right side cylinder has oil around the lower mount. Not a lot tho. So what is the best way to repair the cylinder and how do you refill the reservoir since it is tucked way back in the left rear corner.
Thanks for all the info so far.

To repair the cylinder, contact Klaus at tophydraulicsinc.com
To add fluid ( Pentosin CHF11s ), use a turkey baster ( and some plastic tubing ).
