What a difference outside temps make~ -
09-19-2008
, 06:22 AM
I was out last night at the DFWLX (Chargers, 300’s and Mags) GTG and decided to bring my SRT6 instead. The guys were very intrigued by the car and these dudes have some serious rides!! When I was leaving, I found myself next to a Caliber SRT4 and can see through my window that he is starting to down shift. I had my stereo up pretty loud so I turn it down to hear his RPM’s climbing. I bump the car down a couple gears and see him take off. Within seconds and with tremendous wheel spin, I walk over him like he had hit the brakes. He catches me at the next light looking at me like I just raped his dog. He commented how “Sick” my car was and was on his merry way. Now to the point….Last night the inside temp gauge read 66 degrees, this is the coolest temps my car has seen with the Needswings, Code 3 Pulley and LET Tune. It is amazing the difference. In the normal 90 + degree Texas weather, I would see 16lbs of boost only in the top of third gear. Last night I was seeing 17lbs in the top of second! I have never felt the car this strong and can not wait to see this thing in 40-50 degree temps!! It is a shame the local ¼ track is done with amateur events for the season, I would really like to see what this car can do with my new mods and cooler temps~

You're absolutely right. Last week I took mine to the track. The temps dropped into the 50's. The car becomes a beast in these low temps. I screwed up my launch and lost in the first round. But the drive home was more fun than the races!
I deliberately took the long way home and was grinning like a fool at every stop sign and traffic light. The car just seemed to have a ton more power. These cars are temperature sensative to begin with, but after an CAI and a pulley, it is even more noticable.

I think Waldig needs to come up with some sort of a solution to blow an air conditioner into the intake.

The solution is much easier than you think. Just move to Michigan like I did! Plenty of cool days and nights.

I agree. We have had a cool spell down south. I got on it the othe night after class and I have to say that is the quickest I have ever climbed to 100mph. It was almost scary. I cant wait to hit the track with Needswings manifolds, my e-cutouts and cool weather. 11's are in the bag.

Cooler air outside means cooler air in the intake and thru the super charger. Ill have a video out next week but I installed my new I/C and it is as big as the a/c core and the water flow is massive. Stock came in at about 1.5 GPM, I have preliminary test results at and sometimes above 4.0 GPM.
Cooler intercooler give you that cooler intake charge and the core took about 1 gallon just to fill the 44 row core. Video to follow when I get to work to up load, have Comcast at home........SLOW DSL.
ENJOY the weekend, Woody

Woody, very interested in seeing your new IC setup. Did you make it so any of us non-welders could dupe it?
Did you keep the Johnson pump?

Guys join the track team and get in on the team nights. The track is prepped 100% better than trophy nights. You get at least 3 quality runs and the track will hold 7 sec cars, so it has to hold yours. Even if you don't want to run drag radials, there are some regular cars out there too. NHRA and IRHA have friendly bracket racing. Do some research and run with the big boys, believe me it will feel so much better putting one of the local favorites on the trailer and getting some respect not only for SRT6's but your driving.

I can't wait for the outside temps to drop here in Orlando. I basically have about the same mods as you and as far as the Caliber SRT-4, if they don't get their ECU upgraded, they are a slug. I went to a dyno last week and saw 2 guys, who were best buddies, one with a Neon SRT-4 putting down only a measly 212 whp, and his buddy with the SRT-4 Caliber putting down 261 whp! Well on their way home, they did a roll from 40 and the Neon walked him! Go figure? Those Calibers have their power held back in 1st, 2nd and 3rd until the tune really opens them up.
