StarDAS Club -
01-25-2010
, 10:28 AM
So I'm tossing around the idea of getting a StarDAS system between a few members so that we can take modding these cars to the next level. There are so many systems that are integrated on these cars and if it doesn't like what it sees on one end, it puts the whole thing into limp mode. Looking for 5-6 members that all know and trust each other that are really looking at getting into these cars to do this with. Figure that as new modifications come out, we can get the unit around to those members to do the updates to the ECUs/TCMs/BCUs and if we want to go a step further, we can do this for other members cars to recoup the cost of teh unit. I don't want this to turn into the traveling Crossfire bears deal where nobody is really sure where they are at but rather it is located at one persons place and all the members know until the next member needs it. This would make sure that all the parts are kept together and that if anything is lost or broke, there is accountability for it. These units are roughly $1000 so while the investment for one is substantial, for a group, it's rather affordable.
Everyone's thoughts?
List so far...

Your gonna probably want a developer edition to do some of the things you want...

sounds like a good idea, you know i just learned my cell phone, now i would have to learn a computer,, but really i would need some one to work the thing. but if it helps with my rear end i'm for it. 200 ea for 5 people or 100 ea fo 10 people sounds better because if it goes caput then we don't loose much. jim

That's a given and pretty much the whole point of getting one. I'd ask if you want in but you already have one.

Can you give me more details on the system? What exactly can we do with this system? Maybe a link?

This will allow us to change the coding in the car so we can change rear gear ratios, transmissions for different gearing there, change tire size and it's what LantanaTX used for his V8 swap so it's pretty inclusive. To put it lightly, it's what the engineers at MB use when they prototype the electronic systems in these cars and make it all work together. The developer mode that Jake was talking about is the key to all this.

Its basically a computer you plug into the obd port. It's primary use is for mb techs to diagnose problems. But, yes with dev mode you can turn things on and off etc.

Now that the atmosphere is nicer here!
What is the learning curve on something like this?
I am guessing one would have to be able to understand and write computer code to make changes

It would be a deal where I'd do the work remotely somewhat like how Eurocharged does the remote ECU tunes. Just to be clear, this is NOT for tuning the cars but rather for changing the parameters of the electronics so that hardware modifications can take place.

are you saying it CAN NOT be used for tuning or that it WILL NOT be used tuning?
