Finally got my new tires mounted, amazing!
Finally got my new tires mounted, amazing!
The tires have been in my living room for some time and I called a major chain upon a recommendation. The guys at the store were great. The tires came from the tire rack but that did not bother them. What I had were TOYO PROXES R888's. Stock size in front and one size bigger, 255/40-17, I have an SLK32 AMG,
a 2002. If you don't know what these tires are I will give a brief description. They are a road race tire that is D.O.T. legal. I expect them to last to the end of August. Their UTOG rating is 100. Traction
I cannot tell you how they handle because at this point they are more tire than I am a driver These babies stick and are designed to stick beyond what I care to put to the test just yet. They come with 6/32nd of useable tread. I took an on ramp and off ramp that I take almost everyday and I just kept giving it throttle with no effect except for the superb handling. I know they are not a typical street tire. The closest they are to something some of you may have used are the Mickey Thompson ET radials, the NITTO NT-05's and the NT-01's. The latter being NITTO's version of a road race tire like the TOYO's.
If you have an extra $1000. and you live where it does not rain much(I would not drive these in the rain only if I had to and then under the posted limit) give these a try as you will not be disappointed. They also run wide for their listed size. I thought my fenders were rolled but the installer said no. I took some pics with my phone and when I figure how to post the pics I will do so to see what you all think about the fenders as I was able to get good shots with the wheels off.
As for the handling of these tires as I get more comfortable I will take them further than I have and see how they react, or is that how I react Mark

Just a bit of info but most organizations consider any tire with a wear rating under 200 to be a race tire and will class you accordingly. Is a case where it is good to have these for a track day and something in the 400-600 range for the street.
