So you use the same polishing pad to apply the polish until you see the shine?

FP,

These guys know a LOT more about this than me, I'm brand new to the pc (got one for christmas) just like you. I have been reading up on it at http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-p...-polisher.html they have some good info there. You might want to check it out.

I bought the Klasse AIO and Klasse Sealant and P21S Carnauba wax. Any tips from you guys on how to get the best shine on my black coupe ?

FP...yes, for every different product, use a different pad. Once the polish dusts or becomes transparent, it is time to remove the polish...this usually occurs at 8-10 passes with a speed of 5 on the PC.

For a black car, aio, sealant glaze, and then P21S is certainly a nice combo. But please remember as I mention in my "How to detail your Crossfire" thread, POLISHING is key to achieving a beautiful finish. AIO, SG, and P21S only provide enhanced protection and shine, but they are not truly designed to correct paint imperfections such as swirls (AIO can remove some very minor swirls though). As for autopia, well, that's where I first learned about proper detailing techniques, I'll admit it!

Question Re: For the Detailing Experts - 01-14-2007 , 08:13 AM

Golfdude,
Thanks for all your help.
I also bought a clay magic kit so I'm going to start with that. Then I need to do some paint chip touch up's. Or, Should I do the paint touch first? What do you think I should do as the next step. I have a few very light scratch/swirl marks, nothing bad. Should I get some other type of polish to use before the Klasse AIO ? If so, What do you recommend?

3. Wash car again to remove residue from clay (this wash can be very fast b/c the car should be free of all dirt. It usually takes me less than 5 minutes to wash a car after clay barring).
4. Dry car
5. Polish car with Optimum Compound and a pc at speed of 5 with the orange Sonus DAS pad (or any other light-cutting pad). DO NOT POLISH AREA WITH CHIPS.
6. Polish car with Optimum Polish and a pc at speed of 3.5 with the blue Sonus DAS pad (or any other finishing pad). Work it in very well and very slowly, this will take a long time. You may not need this step if you have removed most of the swirls with the compound. DO NOT POLISH AREA WITH CHIPS.
7. Repair paint chips like David Bynon from Autopia recommends.
8. AIO
9. SG
10. P21S (wait a day before you put this layer on top of SG)

What other detailing products do you have because if you have some other polishes instead of optimum polishes, I can help you modify this how-to list using the products that you currently have? Good luck and feel free to ask more questions.

Another, easier technique that will probably satisfy you without the multi-step polishing process is by using a Sonus green or orange DAS pad with Optimum Poli-seal, which for many is the best one-step product on the market today. I hear great things and when my next order comes up, this stuff will definitely be on my list! Optimum Poli-seal is a light polish, sealant, and cleaner all in one product. I think this product alone will make you happy. Naturally, I would prefer doing the compound first and then this stuff, then some more P21S if you want. Here's a link:

So far I have the Klasse AIO, Klasse sealant and P21S wax. I have a PC 7424 and a set of pads. Clay magic clay kit. Sonus wash mitt, Buffing, Polish and drying towels. Sonus Der Wunder and SFX applicator pads. And some detailing brushes. I have some Sonus leather cleaner and conditioner, And cockpit detailer. I use Meguiars NXT generation car wash. And I have a good wash bucket.
Should i get some Optimum Compound and Polish or the Optimum Poli-seal?
What else do you think I need to get to do the job right?

I would say the Optimum Polish, compound, and Poli-seal would be great. I recommend some Optimum No Rinse too as it can be used for many different things, such as a clay bar lube, which I tend to run-out of very quickly.

What's the best product and process to remove road paint from your wheels and car?

'finger nail polish remover' works great to remove road paint off of your cars metal/rim surfaces... just be careful using it on plastics...

place the remover on a towel & rub lightly... it will require a polish after paint removal.

How do you feel about the "California Dusters" if used only to dust off over night dust that settles on the car in the garage. Assuming the car is well polished and waxed?

Good question. I have used them for years with no known ill effects. As you said, though, the car should be clean and protected with wax just in case.

One of the most important rules of detailing is to have clean materials to use on the surface of the paint. A duster will accumulate dirt over time, therefore you are dragging dirt particles onto the paint, therefore scratching the paint. In my opinion, no, I would not use a duster on a paint surface. Take a microfiber cloth and a quick detailer to remove dust. I prefer some form of lubrication when touching the surface to minimize scratching.

Has anyone used the "Turtle wax ICE" product? I buddy of mine used it on his car, i saw it last night, and it had a amazing shine to it.

I used it today, its almost like a silicon feel to it. Looks good, but i'll see the real results tomorrow morning.

Quick question; If I'm going to clay my car, but needs a wash first, do I need to wipe it dry before claying?
