Hello all

Was driving my car earlier which is a 6 speed UK 2005 Crossfire and I could notice a rattle that was fairly quick. It doesn't seem to do it above 50MPH and it happens mostly when you are in a gear maintaining a speed or when you are lifting off to slow down. At first I thought it might have been transmission linked, but I pulled up and revved the car and I could hear it rattle once or twice (compared to continuous when moving). After that I couldn't make it rattle again whilst stationary but could when driving away. It can be heard louder outside the car as I opened my window and it was clearer. It sounds a bit like a ratchet spinning round....

Car has done 54,000 miles.

Unsure whether the car is safe to drive or not?

Anyone able to shed some light? It is hard to describe where the noise is coming from so I would be very surprised/impressed if anyone is able to point to the exact issue...

So it does the rattle sound heard stopped or moving?
How often? Frequently or occasionally?
Only under 50 mph or is it under a certain rpm?
Loose pulley? Could rattle at lower rpm but smooth out at more rpm, could loosen tension on belt or take belt off and hand check each pulley.
Something in the fan, when the fan is on it clicks a foreign object?

 

Have you replaced your catalytic converter before? Reason being mine is on its way out as the casing is breaking up and causing a metallic rattling. It's irritating but it's still passing on emissions for MOT.
