Please let us know how it works out. No extra resistor? No light bulb warning light on the dash?

Hey Jimmier, no extra resistor that I am aware, no dash board light either. Seems like the part is a go between the brake pedal and the (CHMSL) 3rd brake light. I did read you could install at the fuse box if the (CHMSL) fuse is labeled independently or splice at the brake light itself. It was 5 degrees today, CF in garage and I have not a clue how to disengage the plastic panel to access the 3rd brake light on a coupe. I'm afraid I'll bust the plastic to install a $5.00 part. Unless I find a video or detailed instruction for removal of the plastic surround molding to access the brake light, I'm gonna let Rudy Compart do the install if I can get his attention. I have not received the part, it is ordered. Won't be driving the CF in temps under 38degrees (tire issue). Do you have resources, advice or a video as to how to pull the plastic housing under the trunk lid to access the (CHMSL) brake light?? Thanks!

I have a Roadster so assume I have to take of the plastic panel under the trunk lid. Somewhere on this forum there is a link to where to buy the plastic studs that hold the panel in place in case you break them when you take them off. Must be nice to be close to RudyCompart. Let us know how it turns out.

Jimmier, I'll poke around the forum and look for the replacement plastic studs. It is great being close to Rudy, however he is having a baby soon and I think his schedule is not as available as he use to be. He is a as polite as can be, would give you the shirt off his back. It is amazing how knowledgeable he is about the CF. He told me he has been flown to cities by owners to work on CF'ers. I would feel more confident to let him install the $5 module, rather than me screwing up the plastic molding under the truck lid. When the weather breaks, I'll give Rudy a call. Thanks for all your input and responses!

Just purchased this module from ebay. Installed in one hour & works great. Strobe 3 times, Flash 4 times then steady. Just splice into the Center High Mounted Brake Light wiring.

Hi Red Runner, Thanks for the posting. Can you describe how to remove the plastic molded housing to gain access to the 3rd brake light? Did any of the mounting clips break during the installation? Thanks for any direction.

Removal of the trim panels is easy. Three screws & a trim removal tool or screw driver. Reference the shop manual available on this site. (I don't know how to post the pages from the shop manual) Go to Contents 23 Body then 23-48 & 23-49. Page 2903 & 2904. Be careful when installing the upper panel that the pins are clear of the flasher unit. I didn't have any problems with broken pins on the panel. The black wire with the blue stripe is positive & the brown wire is ground. A whole set of trim tools are available at Harbor Fright for $8.
5 Piece Auto Trim and Molding Tool Set

Picture is before I tucked in the wiring. Removing the plug to the brake light is by sliding a screwdriver under it & lifting up. There is a pin there but you don't have to squeeze any detent to get it to release.

Thanks Red Runner, thanks for the picture, too. I'm trying to access the shop manual on the forum. Can't get to this mod until midwest temps rise. Pretty freaken cold here! CF is in the garage! Waiting for arrival of the flasher module from China.

RedRunner: turns out I have the manual, found the pages you mentioned. Will order the panel tool kit. I attached 3 screenshots of the manual pages related to the removal of the lift gate trim for anyone else that may need it. (hope the screen shots are legible) Thanks again!

Would an easier way be to connect the module to the fuse nox connectiono for the third brake light? Anyone know which fuse this is? Then you would not need to take the rear panel off at all

Removing the panels takes less then 2 minutes & you have plenty of room to mount the flasher module. Splicing into the wires in the fuse box is not that easy. If you are unable to remove the panels then you probably shouldn't be doing this modification. I have had my panels off several times & have not damaged any mounting clips or plastic lugs. As always check the alignment before final attachment.

Thanks AKING57 for taking the time to take photos and post them on your installation. It saved me some time not having to figure out which wire was what. I have one of these modules on a TBL on my 08 Goldwing and another on our 2013 Subaru Legacy 3.6R it has a separate TBL in the spoiler. For the price from Superbrightleds it's pretty cheap insurance. Looks pretty cool too.

I can't believe I overpaid for the 3rd brake light flasher module from superbrightLED at $4.95 PLUS shipping when the same module is available for $3.50 with FREE shipping from eBay. I'm a terrible shopper……. Every CF should have this mod, we will live longer!

Believe it! I bought four of them from SuperBrightLed so I share your pain. But you might be on to something - maybe more Crossfires will survive as the years go by due to reduce rear end collisions.
