Driver side headlight issue with HID
Driver side headlight issue with HID
Hi all,
I'm wrapping my roof tomorrow in vinyl. Attempt 2, 1 didnt go so well but I have lots of pics and a little advice to share shortly.
My current issue
I have HID 6000k bulbs installed on my low beams. All is fine until my driver side light goes out. Dash light comes on.
Bought a new kit, swapped out bulbs and ballast no joy. Tested the old bulb and ballast on passenger side and all works.
Im guessing its the wire harness on the hole head light assembly.
Any ideas on what it could be and how to remove the engine coolant tub behind it. Not sure how to tackle that under side push pin bolt thing.
Look forward to sharing my roof adventure and fixing this current issue
Have a safe happy new year
Also if anyone knows where to get cheap NEW head light assemblies for both sides ill be interested in buying. Located in Australia BTW. but still keen.

Re: Driver side headlight issue with HID
As to removing the coolant tank : unplug the sensor wire, remove the 2 10mm nuts, then use a large screw driver or small pry bar just above the rubber part of the grommet and leverage while pulling up and rocking the tank. Ain't easy, but can be done. Sometimes the rubber grommet just comes out with the tank.
As to the headlight :
1. new assemblies are hard to find and VERY expensive ( $700-$900 US )
2. I would measure the voltage at the interior plug ( non-HID: connects to bulb, with HID it connects to the HID ballast harness ) and see if you have 12-14.5 volts.
If you see 12-14.5 volts, then ballast/HID bulb issue.
If not then wiring / fuse issue.
( if you don't have a voltage meter, just use an old H7 bulb plugged to the connector )
( if you don't have an old H7 bulb, use the one from the high beam, but DON'T TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR FINGERS - use a clean cloth or gloves )

Re: Driver side headlight issue with HID
( not sure which one, since yours is RHD - anyway - look in your owners manual index for 'fuses' )
What's a 'dirty Mexican' doing in Australia anyway ?

Actually, I resisted using a pry bar for fear of breaking something, altho this might work also, with care.

I too resisted the pry bar the first time I attempted to remove it, but I got pissed off and used it.
Re: Driver side headlight issue with HID
It was the fuse. Cant bloody believe it.
$80+ spent on a $2 fix. haha
But I found out im missing the clip from the passenger side bulb. When they installed the HID bulb they used a black putty to seal it in. sigh
Wasnt able to remove the coolant tank. Will try the WD40 trick. Still have a day before I need to drive.
Cant wrap either. Bloody raining ay.
Thanks Brothers
