Default It just flew off!

I have a 2005 CF Roadster and while driving down the freeway today, I heard a thump on the roof and looked in my rearview mirror and saw a long skinny chrome looking thing flying in the air. I put my hand out the window to find that my top windshield trim piece detached and flew off. Now I know it is plastic so I am sure it was shattered into a few pieces by other cars. I went to the dealer to find out it is $477 to buy a replacement. Anyone else with this problem? No, I was not doing 125mph but about 80mph. I see it is only attached by 5 sticky backed nubs. I need to find a place I can replace without costing a fortune.

Datum. That's a stiff price for a pice of plastic.

I doubt it was speed, having done 160 in my crossie roadster. Many have done triple didgits for long stretches with no issues. this is kinda new and rare.

Had the wind screen been replaced at one time?

Here you go buddy, I know it sucks, but at least this is a new piece and less than the dealer if you're looking to buy one asap.

Chrysler Repair Parts: Chrysler: Crossfire: 2004: Windshield: Reveal Moldings: Upper Molding

EDIT: you can manually select which year and model Xfire you have of course

Franc...as far as I know the windshield was never replaced. But I bought the car a year ago and it had about 32,000 miles on it.

Ok, I need help also, this weekend on my '04 doing about 75-80 heard some rumbling and thought it was the tire that was going flat, stopped and checked and so nothing. Starting down the highway again heard the noise again and my husband thought something was wrong in the engine bay. So we stopped again and checked and to my surprise, I saw the plastic piece above the windshield flapping along with the A-Pillar on the passenger side. Was to far to turn back to go home since we were going to a conference. So I had to get some clear duct tape and tape it as best as I could. Took to the dealer body shop today and they want over $1000 to replace the 3 pieces (driver and passenger A-Pillar and the plastic piece at the top. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Marion, I was hearing a high pitched sound coming from the outside of my Crossfire but did not know that air was coming up underneath the molding and so I took it into the dealer while still under an extended warranty. They said it was my tires. About 2 weeks later, the molding flies off. I went back to the dealer and they said oops...sorry. Then they said my warranty had expired and there was nothing they could do. $477.00 and about a week to get. I tried looking for them on Ebay and Craigslist to no avail. Someone posted a link for a cheaper cost but by the time it would have been shipped out, would have cost the same. The dealership did knock off 10%. It is very easy to put on and does seem solid now. Good luck to you.

I still have a few side pieces, but no top moldings. Sides are $65 each plus shipping.

I lost 2 top pieces! On the third piece I used a rubber mallet to make certain each clip was clipped and then I used jb weld in between the crack where the sides meet the top. You can't notice it because it's the same color almost as the molding. But on there like that now for year with no problem

After a month of searching EBAY and Craiglist and other venues, I got tired of it looking the way it did so I spent the money. I am occassionally still looking at Ebay in case I do find one, I am going to buy it and have as a spare.

Fireman24...I went to my local Chrysler Parts department and asked for some help. They knocked off 10% and ordered it for me. I checked Ebay for weeks and emailed every wrecked Crossfire I found and they all said the same thing...if they had 50 of these parts, they would be gone fast. Seems to be a problem eh? That is why I keep looking for them in case it happens again. There is a link on one of the earlier posts but by the time you add in shipping, it cost about the same from a dealer.
Good luck

Lyle
