News: Getting more info in mid Feb regarding start date.

Questions to ViS:

1. Ask how ViS reinforces the hinge and latch locations to prevent cracking after opening and closing many times.
2. Ask ViS what strut would work properly with the lighter hood and have them design the hood to use the OEM strut mount location.
3. What is their warranty on craftsmanship?

Price range: $500-650$ USD

Material: Material will always be fiberglass for the core and underside. This keeps cost down, and for carbon, it's a real sheet of top grade 2x2 weave carbon material.

Flexing issue: I have brought this up to ViS so they will see what they can do about this. They had no known issues before as they make an replica of the underside of the oem hood aswell. The hoods that have had issues, I believe were somewhat flat and not the oem shape. Always recommended to use hood pins for security reasons.

Hoodpins: these will be needed to be purchased and installed seperately, no pre drilled holes

Paint: Hood will come in CF look and ViS special Poly Shield finish.

Design: The design we are going after is the so-called Waldig/Firepower design. Vents at front with spine. Simple but still functional and good looking.

Design: The ViS design team will give their opinion on everything but I got green light on the design. AAs they are specialist I will let them put their touch on the design aswell. No major changes will be done but I will listen to their expertise and see if we can tweak it to the better. Also if clearance issues are a problem we then will re-think the design and we then will have to start over with a new list. Note, this is when drastic changes are made. We will try to make the design to look similar to the pictures above.

Emblem: The hood will be making room for the OEM emblem.Not included so you will have to use your own. Depending on what Vis are saying some drilling may be necessary to get the pins down.

Clearance: We will have 2 SRT-6 vehicles available for ViS to use for measuring and testing. For clearance we will use a SRT-6 with DCAIs and to get the hood we will use a stock SRT-6.
NOTE: I cannot guarantee fitment for N/A and/or rebuilds.

Money and shipping and warranty and the usuals are all dealt directly with ViS. I am carrying out this groupbuy as a private individual and not a business. So if anything will go bad with shipping, fitment and other reclaim issues, everyone will be needing to get in touch with ViS.

I have been in touch with ViS Racing in order to make this happen.
This is what I posted on the facebook groups.

www.SRT-6.com Groupbuy Carbon fiber hood made by ViS Racing.

Price approx. 500-650 USD and deposit would be 1/3-1/2 the amount. Production will take 6-8 weeks. Std delivery times.

Anything on the board for design or "stock appearing"?

 

I discussed this with Fred at ViS Racing and we came up with the following:

1. stock
2. Hood vents
3. See through glass like the corvette z1

They can make us anything we want but they wanted us to settle with one type. As you can see on videos on youtube their hoods are mighty fine. Personally I would like to have some hood vents like on the C63 amg.

I do think it will be easiest if there is just a stock reproduction.

 

Maybe go with some Dodge heritage.. why stay mild when the door is open for wild..

 

google c63 amg hood or zr1 hhod or jaguar hood vents etc. A lot of it out there but I guess it will be difficult to get 20 ppl settled on one design...

 

Might have to select a few and do a poll.. and then that becomes what is offered.. 20 people will have 19 different views..lol

 

Well that is why I believe a stock replica will be the best.
I will do some photoshop pictures tomorrow to see if we get any ideas. but until then the group buy will be for a Crossfire Stock hood replica in carbon fiber.
I am asking them if we can split it up, like 10 hoods with vents and other 10 looking stock.

 

Okay.. if something comes in that is different enough, I'll probably be in on it, and I think the wife is competing with me for mods..lol. As far as stock looking.. well I can take my amp speaker setup out of the trunk to shave 30 LBS.. But I do realize there are the hard core go fast groups too..
So consider me subscribed with interest.

I know boiler ( John ) had to add some really nice looking hood pins to keep his tamed down.

Okay. For all knowledge, we are doing a replica hood with all lines etc but somehow will incorporate hood vents. I am doing designs for the moment but it will look good.

Need to add ppl to list above but I think we have bout 6 ppl already.
