Make the side marker light ground through the element of the front turn signal bulb. When the turn signal is off the side marker will ground through the element and when that element is lit the side marker loses ground and goes off.

This sounds very interesting and relatively easy to do.
But ..., I am not too familiar with the terms you're using. What I do know is that each bulb has a positive and a ground (negative), a '+'and a '-'.
Do you mean that the side marker ground should be disconnected and be connected to the front turn signal positive?
Jim.
Check any older GM car, they used this method for years.

This method is sure to mess with the 'light out' bulb on the dash.

I was thinking about that after I hit the submit reply button. The light out light might think the side marker is out when the turn signal element is lit and trigger the light. Have to try it and see. And you are correct James I learned that years ago off of GM chassis RVs.

In the old days the extra draw on the wiring would have required a trailer blinker module.

I am not too sure about the light out indicator, I added a dash cam to one of the fuses for the exterior lights, the light out light came on. I was going to look into it and wire it differently, but today the light went out and the dash cam still works.

What is it that detects the different amperage or whatever? Mine seems to have learned that all is OK.
