Question Blower Resistor Resistor - where to get it !

My X-Fire has developed the on again off again heater fan problem. With the switch on, nothing happens, then 5 minutes later it blows for maybe 2 minutes, then goes off again... then 20 minutes later it comes back on, if I am lucky for 5 minutes. I AM GETTING REAL TIRED OF DRIVING WITH ONLY MY BUTT WARM! So, in searching the forum, sounds to me like the Blower motor resistor is the most likely problem-
So, who has found one at a reasonable price? Ebay currently has nothing, and the best I have found so far is $262. I will carry a blanket with me and drive with the windows open before I pay that much...
Who has had better success? Also if someone has posted a step-by-step, my nimble fingered son will be more inclined to help me out.
Thanks,

I feel for ya man! Same thing was wrong with mine! Lucky for me though I had the Extended warranty that covered it! Yeah, mine happened this summer, so for about a min I would get a blast of cold air and then shut it off! You should have saw me when it did kick in! I was on my air vents like a moth was to a porch light! Wish ya good luck finding your part! Mike

I replaced mine about 2 months ago and paid $146 including shipping. I spoke to Gary Hurst at www.buyMBParts.com A genuine new part. Easy to replace and since you are down there, you might want to consider replacing your cabin air filter. Good luck!

Guns- thanks a million. I talked to Rusty there, he sent me the part (BEHR, just like the one I took out) for the 320 Mercedes. $154 as advertised, to the door. I did find the need to reuse the red wire from tho old regulator, as the one on the new part was kinda short. Also, I found it easier to remove the blower motor complete, replace the regulator (2 screws) and replace the entire unit. It was much easier to get the screwholes lined up with the entire unit, it was easy to mark how it went in with a piece of tape before I removed it. Good mechanic- 45 minutes- me- 2 hours!

On the road again!... and fixed just in time for the fall weather.
This is my everday driver, 105 k and counting, and it's getting too wet out here in Washington for motorcycles!

Thanks again.

I had exactly the same problem. Blower unit had a mind of it's own. Thanks to all the postings regarding the issue it has now been fixed. Took about 30 mins to replace. Need a torx driver to remove the mounting screws.

Crossers your photos look like its going to be very helpful however I'm not a car guy. Can you take a topical photo I cant even find where photo #1 would be located. I bought the resistor already just need to locate.

Thanks.

It would be on the passenger side, behind glove compartment.
Download a service manual here.

I found this on eBay for $66 and free shipping to the US. They ship all over the world, just ask for the cost.

Hi mate i have just pulled out my fan motor Very easy to get out 10 min. I had the same problem and after a good inspection i found that the comutator brushes in the fan motor were worn out ( Not the resistor)
Please check the length of your brushes to ensure they are touching the comy. It is a simple process just remove the two screws on the top of the fan motor and the who plastic piece will come leaving you with the motor and fan. You will see two clips holding the brushes in just pry of and check your brush length. The clips just press back on . If you are not sure what the lenght should be . The brushes should be at least one half inche in lenght. YTou may have an auto elect mate who could look for you only takes a couple of mins. Regards Roy

Having the same problem. This forum is wonderful for this sort of thing. For those of you who experienced intermittent fan operation and who had a bad blower resistor, did the fan operation change when you adjust fan settings? When mine is off, it's off regardless of fan speed dial position.

Wink Re: Blower Resistor Resistor - where to get it !

Just replaced my Blower motor resistor. Very easy to do. Took about 1 hour. Found step by step instructions in this forum. Purchased Mercedes C CLK SLK Blower Regulator Fan AC Resistor NEW (#260768199607) from DeluxeChrome items - Get great deals on Replacement Car Parts, Chrome Auto Accessories items on eBay Stores! $79.95 delivered. I was having the same intermittent problem with my fan as most people have complained about. I have a 2005 Crossfire Roadster. Fan now blows perfectly. It's no longer available at that seller but this person has them: Mercedes C CLK SLK Blower Regulator Fan AC Resistor NEW | eBay

All the screws require a size T20 on both the blower motor & resistor.
