Default Vinyl touch up possible?

Hello everyone!

The black parts of my center console are peeling at certain areas. Eventually I won't have a choice but to take out the whole console and repaint it.
In the meantime I was wondering if there is a way to just touch up certain parts (like the faded part around the silver trim in the pictures), which look especially bad. Would that be a good idea or will it look even worse? If someone has touched up their center console please let me know how you did it and what I need to get/pay attention to.
Thanks for any advise! I wish they would have used better paint for the inside of our cars! I know they went with environmentally protective paint and didn't know at the time it would peel down the road, but still!
Oh yeah, btw my interior is the black on black kind!

Nick

I had no luck with touch up paint here , it never quite matched.
Spray it or wrap it.

Good luck , show us how it turns out .

Wow the results of this touch up paint look amazing in the video. The company apparently makes original paint that was used in SLK interiors.
Does someone know if the Crossfire used the exact same interior color as the SLKs from its generation?
If so what color code am I looking for to match my Crossfire's black on black interior?

Thanks for that link. For as easy it looks I want to give it a shot before I take the whole console out repaint it all together!

That was on here a month ago or so and the consensus was that it was a terrible botch job. It looks like cr@p.

2 things:
His surface 'preparation' leaves much to be desired
but as the old paint turns 'flakey' it may be a tough problem to solve
and
the 'sponge' applicator technique may be a bit crude also.

=====================
However...
The vinyl paint from the German source may be the diamond in the rough that redeems the video.
You never know until you find out.
Here's the data from below the video...

interior paint can be ordered from VOLICO.de - von Liebenstein Consulting - EU SHOP
and their ebay store:
http://stores.ebay.ca/volicode?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

another paint source in Australia is here
Home

======================
From the ytube comments:
one recommended wet sanding before painting....
(I wouldn't dot it... you could EASILY ruin the vinyl surface; pebble grain texture)

One recommended 'stripping' the entire interior and 're-coating'...
(or you could 'just' strip the console)

Here's his process description: (in Dutch

Mijn R170 SLK 320 update pagina 44 toerrit met 14 slk's - AutoWeek.nl (scroll down)

the stripper is here:
Super Afbijt - Alabastine

Pretty radical technique:

================

So it looks like 4 steps AFTER stripping:

1. Prep cleaner
2. Primer
3. Paint color
4. Top coat

==============
===============
===============

If anyone contacts/dialogs w/ the paint vendor
regarding color matching SLK to XF interiors... please post what you find.
Colors mentioned in the video were
anthracite grey found here: Super Afbijt - Alabastine

Cheers.
G.

Bluecoupe did an excellent job, he had the paint made up locally as I recall.
Someone mentioned using brake fluid to strip the old finish off, another stripper was mentioned and it was'nt Boom Boom Betty.

Another great option for this application is ColorBond Paint. I did a partial color change on the interior of my '04 Coupe using this stuff and did this write up on it --> https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...or-change.html

I did a little more research and it's odd...there are numerous people on the Mercedes forum who swear by the method the guy in the video used to touch up little spots. Not for whole consoles but little spots supposedly worked out pretty well.

Either way, I would like to make mine look new and not just OK so I will probably have to strip the console then go from there. But I am still trying to figure out what paint to order. If I ordered from the German website, does that SLK interior color exactly match my dark grey on dark interior? What is the Mercedes equivalent to that interior I am speaking of?

Any other matching paints that will work, I can get in the US?

Thanks again for your help folks!

Is that the dark grey on dark interior color of the crossfire like mine? That's exactly what I'm looking for then! How much was it?

Before I had the custom dye made up by Parasol, I ordered the MB dye available from Vipond per the MB forum tautflex benz. They sent me a colour swatch so I could attempt to match. I ordered the anthracite 221, I thought it was the closest but turned out patchy looking. I see they now have 4 shades of anthracite so there may be a better match. Send them an e-mail.
