Default NEX around the Quabbin?

Howdy to all the NEX members,
I think the trip around the Quabbin that someone mentioned a while back would be great! I would suggest we shoot for the 7th or 14th of June. After Memorial Day so we don't get a lot of holiday traffic. Maybe Crossfirefun could head that one up with his Chevette ? Or however suggested it way back when. Everybody please post your thoughts in this thread.

Not sure on the dates but that sounds like it would be fun. Even though I drive both roads weekly.Would this be a drive and cookout type deal?

If you drive these roads often, then you are a good choice to lead the rally. Besides, it will be a little more fun having 15 or so other Crossfires with you!!
If you know of a good spot to cook out, towards the latter part of the cruise, we can do that or if you know a good little restaurant we could do that. It's all up to what is suggested and what is accepted by the NEX membership. We need some good photo spots, places for potty breaks and eating joints. And don't forget a meeting spot to kick off the cruise.

Both of those dates would be great for me... silly question. where is Quabbin>? Im thinking the resevoir in Newton but that cant be... its not that big and in the city. Perhaps just the same name?

I would vote for a BBQ... it was fun to just relax and buzz amongst the cars while snacking on fine cuisine! of course if everyone wanted to eat out someplace i would be willing...

Im headed to Hampton Beach this weekend i hope the rain holds off... leaving saturday morning.. staying the night... up early for mothers day... hey MEN dont forget about your women on sunday ( just a heads up)

Im not a mom so no need for flowers..lol... thanks anyway...

I'm always up for a cruise and cookout out eat out, I don't care. The Newport run was fun and everyone enjoyed themselves, 'cept the criminals that joined us late at the Grand;o I know that most of the 3 will fight it and hopefully win. Looking forward to our next cruise. Jen. I'll bring the flowers for you!!!

Nightrider brought up the idea of a trip up Mt. Wachusett. I was thinking that it is only a 1 1/4 mile road so maybe we could combine the two as they are only minutes apart. We could start with a 2 or 3 hr. cruise around quabbin with pics at the dam and then end at wachusett nat. park for a cookout and a run up the mountain. I am checking the mt. out this weekend and also hope to see on a hotel close by there.

How does this sound?

Cross+Fire+06 The quabbin res. could all be the same as this one feeds boston. They flooded many towns out here to get enough water.
This end is the start and it is in belchertow/ware area.

Sorry is this is off topic but we all have been invited to the Memorial Day Parade in Wickford, Rhode Island. I have done this several times and it's a whole lot of fun. You can decorate your car with ribbons and flags that come off easily. At the end of the parade, there are hot dogs and hamburgers with chips and stuff for the participants. There are usually 3 PT Cruisers that show up, I'd like to have more. We meet at Wlicox Park via Intrepid drive at 9 am. We could meet at 8 for breakfast and follow me to the meetup spot. Anyone interested in joining up should drop me a note via PM or ? It's not a long day and IS a great way to gain exposure.

Count me in for Quabbin and/or Mt Wachusetts. For those unfamiliar with these areas My Wachusetts is a 100' Mt about 50 miles west of Boston inear Fitchburg. View from top of toll road you can see Vermont, Quabbin NH and Boston on a clear day.

Quabbin is part of the Boston reservoir system created in the 1930's by flooding 5 towns it is the big lake u see on a Mass map between Worcester and Springfield. There are several senic overlooks picnic stops and being a large city's reservoir it is in a very natural state. Windsor Dam and the other southern route offer views to kill for up valley. Both can be googled. The attached pic in next my post is taken at Quabbin.

Anyone else signing up? This could be just a meet and greet with a fun run if that's all people want. Input? Sunday is better for my wife as she baby sits on sat.
Do we have a date picked yet?

What time does everyone want to meet? We can caravan around quabbin and then return to Sturbridge for a late lunch, or breakfast first with a ride to quabbin and then disburse from there, or what?
Not much else to do in that area. Old Sturbridge village would be good for some members to fill in the day. That would mean we have to plan accordingly.
Please chime in with ideas.

We have alot of Boston Provodence arae members. I'd suggest Sturbridge to Quabbin to Mt Wachusetts then disburse. Lunch somewhere around Quabbin/Barre. There's a unique restaraunt in Palmer called the STeam Tender. It is the Old Railroad Station and everything is a railroad theme with a small choo choo museum.
