Default North Attleboro Kid's Day Car Show & more...

Here's an article from my local newspaper about the North Attleboro Fire Department's Kid's Day activities:

NORTH ATTLEBORO - With rides, games, live music, fireworks, a parade and a road race, there will be enough activities at this year's Kids Day to entertain even the most finicky carnival-goer.

The North Attleboro Firefighters Kids Day Association has put together its schedule of events for the four-day carnival, which will be held on Mason Field from July 10 to 13.

Proceeds from the carnival are donated to needy families and local charities by the North Attleboro Firefighters Kids Day Association.

The event, which started 28 years ago when several North Attleboro firefighters took over a small event hosted by the Attleboro Falls Association, has grown bigger and bigger - and the program for this year is no exception.

Throughout the four-day event, there will be plenty of things to do and see. On Thursday, opening day, there will be ride specials from noon to 5 p.m.

At 6 p.m. just outside the gates, the street will be lined with hot rods to kick off the annual Kids Day Cruise Night. Following cruise night nationally known John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown band are scheduled to take the stage for a second year.

TOM MAGUIRESign of summer Kids Day will return to Mason Field in North Attleboro July 10-13.
Friday also will feature a ride special price during the day. At night, you can catch The James Montgomery Band on stage. At approximately 9 p.m., a small fireworks display will be lit off by Atlas Pyrotechnic of Jaffrey, N.H.

On Saturday, the event kicks off with the annual fire truck parade. As many as 60 fire trucks and police cars will line up at the middle school and take off for Mason Field with bells and whistles blaring. In the afternoon, Radio Disney will be on hand while later in the evening, the Marc Philip Band will perform.

At 9:30 p.m., the event's most popular attraction - its fireworks show - will be held.

Sunday, the event will kick off at 8 a.m. with the Kids Day 5K Road Race. Adults can register to run in the 5K race beginning at 7:30 a.m,. and kids can run in any one three fun runs from one-quarter, a half-mile and 1 mile. Kids' runs are free and all finishers receive a medal.

As always, no dogs, alcohol, or bikes allowed on the field at any time. The animal control officer has asked that residents also leave dogs home during the fire truck parade and firework displays as well.

Parking is limited around Mason Field for the event but a shuttle bus, will be made available. A schedule will be published closer to the event.

Letters were sent out last week asking local businesses and residents to make a donation to defray the cost of the event's fireworks, which cost around $20,000 to $25,000. While several other businesses have already pledged financial support, Kids Day is seeking additional sponsors.

The fundraising letter is the only contact residents will ever receive from the Kids Day Association - the organization does not raise money over the phone. Donations can be mailed to the North Attleboro Firefighters Kids Day Association, P.O. Box 3215, North Attleboro, MA, 02761

Anyone from -N-E-X- interested in the car show portion on Thursday evening, July 10? Cousin Bruce Palmer does the DJ work. There is no admission charge, and you can get to see and hear John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band for free. For those of you unfamiliar with the band, they played all the music for the "Eddie & the Cruisers" movies. Hot and cold food is also available for bargain prices. No alcohol is allowed as this is a family orientated event.

Post a message if you're interested in attending. I can give you further details later. The event is held at Mason Field which is located a couple of miles west of the intersection of Rte 95 and Robert Toner Blvd (Exit 5) in North Attleboro. They close a section of Commonwealth Ave next to Mason Field for the cars participating in the show. They usually draw about a hundred or so cars each year. I've never seen a Crossfire in attendance.

Let me know, thanks.

Bob
