UNCASVILLE, CT (June 25, 2008)— “Wild Wednesdays” are back as part of Mohegan Sun’s Hot Summer Fun weekly events. Join the roof-top-action on the Riverview Parking Garage at Mohegan Sun every Wednesday evening, beginning July 9th through August 27th. “Wild Wednesdays” festivities will include a variety of events from a Farmer’s Market to a Classic and Sports Car Show, Tribal dancers, a Charity Cook-Off, performances by the Connecticut Sun Solar Power Dance Team, the Juke Box Hero singing competition, the Sizzling Summer Showdown, and concluding with a Fireworks Extravaganza. All “Wild Wednesdays” events are free and open to all ages.
The “Wild Wednesdays” events kick off every Wednesday at 5:00pm with the Farmer’s Market and Classic and Sports Car Show. Mohegan Sun’s Charity Cook-Off begins at 6:00pm, in which the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department and Mohegan Sun Culinary Team challenge local fire departments in southeastern Connecticut to a cook-off on the rooftop of the Riverview Garage. The July 9th and August 6th dates will feature a cook-off of BBQ Chicken; July 16th and August 13th will feature BBQ Pork Ribs; and BBQ Brisket on a roll will be featured on July 23rd and August 20th. The July 30th menu will Smoked Turkey Legs, and Pulled Pork on a roll will be offered on August 27th.
Food portions will be sold for $1.00 and proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Charter Oak Chapter. In previous years, cook- off proceeds have raised over $220,000 for charities including the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services Fund, and Uniformed Firefighters’ Association Widows’ and Children’s Fund of Greater New York.
The Juke Box Hero competition, Mohegan Sun and 102.3 The Wolf’s own version of American Idol, begins at 6:00pm during “Wild Wednesdays.” Spectators will have the opportunity to watch talented participants compete for cash prizes. A performance by the glaring ladies of the Connecticut Suns Solar Power Dance Team will follow at 7:00pm. The Sizzling Summer Showdown follows at 7:30pm, in which area bands battle it out for the chance to be the winner of a $3,000 grand prize and a gig in the Wolf Den.
